Lando's POV
"Help!"
The word is spluttered between rapid splashing in a way that makes my heart drop so far out of my chest I would swear it will be located in the earths core, burning. The smile fell off my face and the laughter died in my throat within a millisecond as I've ran through my veins. I didn't take a second to think about what I was doing before I jumped into the pool, feeling the cold water shock my system but not enough to stop me from swimming to where she is. "Shit, shit, shit, Daisy! Daisy!" I scream as I loop an arm around her waist, desperately trying to help her keep her head above water as my feet touched the ground. In that moment of blind panic I push the hair off her face, cupping her cheek as I desperately search for signs that she is okay.
She is.
The relief floods my body, as I keep on checking that she is okay. While it doesn't completely fade, it's rather juxtaposed with shock when the curl of her lips upwards gives her away. What I thought was choking on water, quick attempts at breathing, is revealed as silent laughter that she was struggling to conceal, her eyes almost closing as her body wracks with jolts of laughter. I don't quite manage to drop my hands from where I hold her, needing to keep her close in case anything else might harm her, instead I just stare at her in blind shock. She was fine - more than fine actually as she was standing on the pool floor next to me, almost bent over from laughter as my t-shirt and trousers clung to every inch of my body. "O-oh my god! Your face!" She cries out as I force myself to stop checking that she's okay, dropping my hands finally when she bends over laughing. "That was incredible! You just leapt in!"
"Yeah well you shouted for help! What the hell was that!" I snap back at her, punching water towards her before wading towards the exit of the pool that was not too far away. The laughter from Daisy stops at my words and the anger in my face before I start retreating. I have to fight every nerve in my body to not turn around and once more reassure myself that she's fine, curling my hands into fists to fight the temptation as I begin to walk up the stairs that will lead me out of the water. I can hear the ripples of water moving behind me as she follows me out, urging my heart to stop beating so hard now that I knew she was okay. Maybe she didn't notice but I didn't think that it was a coincidence that her hand wrapped around my forearms, both at the same time as she stopped me from fully leaving her in the pool alone. I do stop, not because I need to, she isn't strong enough to hold me there but I can't help myself when her fingers curl around my wrists, hating the effect that she has on my body.
And loving it all at the same time.
"C'mon Lan it was a bit of fun... you pushed me in," she reminds me softly, trying to pull me backwards into the water, maybe hoping it will wash my anger away. I close my eyes, letting her heat warm me up, travelling from her grip around my wrists, up my arms and around my whole body. I knew she was right, that I was overreacting but I couldn't help that I was on high alert, the adrenaline was still coursing through my veins and in the absence of anything to funnel it into, it had transformed straight to anger.
It didn't totally matter why though, because I could feel my rationality coming back to me more by the second before getting transported to an entirely different planet as her hands tentatively let go of my wrists and wrapped around my waist instead. I was instantly undone by the action and taken by surprise as I felt her head rest in the center of my back, tensing for a moment before every cell in my body breathes a unified sigh of relief. That's what her touch could do. After a couple more moments, I couldn't fight my hands from moving to hold hers where they were intertwined on my stomach.
"I'm sorry..."
"No, I'm sorry," I tell her, carefully manoeuvring as I turned around so that she wouldn't let go, reaching down to push the hair that was sticking to her forehead and covering her gorgeous eyes back off her face. She almost flinches away as my fingers uncover the bright red scar she had strategically hid underneath her hair all the way during the day but I didn't let that affect the path my fingers took. My anger was so far in the past that I already didn't want any more space and I didn't need any apologies for my reaction to her having fun... it's what I wanted. "I overreacted."
