Lando's POV
I've always liked walking beside Daisy whenever we go anywhere, partly because she makes me feel tall and also because I think she's the only person who has been consistently able to draw attention away from me. Even as she walks down the steps of the stadium next to me in an almost uncharacteristically casual outfit, she is the person garnering the attention of the masses as we head to our seats at the front of the stadium.
"I'm not kissing you while you wear that damn hat," she growls when we get to them, her smile from whatever thought she was having dropping the moment she sees me grinning like an idiot with my Oakland A's cap - the merchandise of the team playing against her precious Yankees. I'd brought her a cap with her teams very famous logo when we arrived, a special rainbow stitching standing out against the black cap had immediately caught her eye and the little happy dance she did when I presented her with it upon her return with our hot dogs was worth it. However, she'd been hilariously unimpressed when I'd then whipped out the green and yellow opposing team's hat for on top of my head. She had quickly started - and not yet stopped - glaring at me for my purchase.
"I didn't think that was an option in public anyway," I grin as I take an obnoxious slurp from my massively oversized 'soda' that she had brought along with our food and fall down onto my seat, watching her pause to think about my words before following suit. Although we'd eaten - I'd begged her to go and get us some more food because that's what American sports are to me! Hotdogs, popcorn and soda that are bigger than my face and more calories than in an whole family's meal. Her face turns red from my words as she lets out a huff but has no comeback as we look towards where the game is already well underway - her team leading to my disappointment.
"It definitely isn't now," she mumbles while pretending to gag, causing me to throw my head back in laughter as we both relax in the seats that aren't full around us. Baseball arenas are huge and never full unless it's a championship game, especially not the expensive seats right at the front where we are. The comfy seats we are in are sort of boxed off so while people can see us, there's a feeling of privacy with the next closest people several rows behind us. This was at least a little busier than other matches I'd been to and I can see a family just down a row and to our left in the box but I know it will never fill up because we're sat where even money can't buy you tickets - only connections can get them. It's enough feeling of privacy that I want to reach out and take her hand in mine but I know that it's a mirage and so I hold back.
While rumours might be swirling and I might be confident that she was my end game, we both had enough common sense that there should be a little more time before anything was confirmed. Going out together was fine, we'd been spotted together at dinner and different sporting matches hundreds of times over the last two years, just the two of us, so we were okay with that but any sign of more would probably send an already bored F1 fandom into a frenzy. I didn't want to put Daisy into what could be a very active line of fire, even if she wouldn't care, I knew that I would.
Other than that, I didn't mind. I'd enjoyed keeping Max guessing and I had already given Elena a heads up that her decision wasn't in vain, so that she wouldn't be caught off guard. She'd responded with a simple heart back. That was three days ago now and we hadn't spoken since as we hadn't had anything else to say to each other. I was still hoping we could be friends at some point because we had been for over five years but if she decided that she couldn't then I'd be thankful to her until the day I died for the strength I wish I had.
Still, despite my caution, it was Daisy who reaches over to take my hand after leaning across me to point out a player that was represented by Excel. I struggled to focus on what she was saying as her perfume mixed with the smell of hot dogs and her face was just inches away from mine and when she pulled away, her hand stays in my lap, resting above my knee as it was pulled up over the other and she stayed leaning into me.
