Daisy's POV
"What's Renfield?" Lando asks out of nowhere as I'm almost finished getting ready.
He's appeared out of nowhere, seemingly ready for bed as he stands topless behind me with joggers on and his arms crossed. The frustration in his eyes is spotlighted in the bright lights from my mirror as he watches me rub the moisturiser into face as I look at him in the reflection.
"If you relapsed, you promised you would tell me... I googled it and I know it's a rehab centre," he pushes forward in the absence of my answer.
"Why ask me if you already know?" I reply after a couple of seconds, resuming rubbing my face slowly.
"Because I wanted you to tell me," he responds, voice harsh as the disappointment builds in his eyes. Not just with me but some sort of perceived offence that has happened between us. "You promised me you would tell me."
The silence continues to build and I distract myself for a couple of moments by playing the conversation out in around six different ways before turning around and hopping up on the counter in my bathroom. He was hurt, that much was clear and I could evade the question or I could answer. I don't know why I wanted to choose the hard way but I did.
Oh yeah - self sabotage. Luke wasn't the only one that suffered with it.
"Do I look like I have relapsed?" I ask finally tilting my head to the side as I pull my hair into a ponytail. "Look at me? Do I seem high? Or withdrawing? Anxious and unavailable?"
"You work constantly and you don't tire ever. You're energetic all the time and I don't know what addiction looks like on you because I wasn't there when you were addicted."
"Whose fault was that?" I ask him before I can help myself, both of us tensing as I look at him. The hurt from before triples and I don't miss the way his fist flexes as he looks at me deadpan, jaw clenching at my response. "I have boundaries Lando. I have them with everyone and I am asking for you to trust me and respect those boundaries."
"I can't when you're hiding things," Lando says, jaw clenching as he leans on the doorway to my bathroom, the move almost hypnotic as one foot crosses in front of the other before. "Maybe I missed the addiction but your tells are as clear as day."
"And what are they saying huh? Since you can read me so well Lando? What do they say?" I feel the words are almost a hiss as my eyes narrow at him and his respond similarly. "Don't do this. You're tired. You've had a few drinks... go to bed and leave it alone."
"I'm not going anywhere. Why won't you understand that?"
"I do understand that but I don't owe you anything Lando. You get what you get... so please. Give it a rest," I urge him and he shakes his head once more, standing up straight with his arms still crossed over his chest.
"Are you using?"
"No!"
At this point my knees are up to my chest, my discomfort levels high as he grills me again. Like a dog with a bone and he's not going to let it go. He's relentless sometimes. It's one of his best and worst qualities and I can quickly feel myself being worn down.
"Lando... you've said so yourself. You know nothing about what that looks like on me so why won't you trust me? You say you do! You say that we're friends but when it comes to it, you're not listening to me!" I say, my voice hard as I refuse to get emotional, one hand fidgeting as it undoes my hair once more and pulls it over my face. I fiddle with my hair, pulling it into a side part as I look at him and wait for him to talk next.
"I do trust you, why don't you trust me with Renfield?" Lando asks back, his arms falling to his side as he walks towards me. He's visibly upset, that much is clear but I don't express myself the way that he does. So my jaw clenches and I lean further back so that my bare shoulders hit the mirror, the silk short Royal Navy blue night dress being all that covers me now.
