I met Adam at the entrance of the school, he gave me an unexpected hug and over his shoulder I saw Michael staring at me. He looked... hurt?
Before I could see him properly, he turned around and began walking on his own. Adam and I soon started walking and a I saw Michael walking ahead of us a few hundred meters away.
Adam started talking to me about nothing really important and I was beginning to get slightly annoyed, it was like if there was a silent moment between us for more than two seconds then the world would crack before his feet and a cerberus would jump from the newly made crack and treat him like a rope which they would play tug of war with.
"Should we ask Michael if he wants to walk with us?" I asked interrupt him in the middle of his sentence. "He looks lonely."
"No," his voice was surprisingly cold. I looked at him in confusion. I guess he was a bit angry that I interrupted him. Whatever, he shouldn't really make small things into huge problems and it wasn't like he was talking about anything important or interesting.
"Why not?"
"Because... well you two aren't talking properly and if her joins us then it would be awkward." I knew he made that excuse but I didn't have a choice but to nod and smile.
No one was at home so I started on the homework due for tomorrow, my mind in a trance-like state. In the middle of my history assignment my phone started to buzz on my bedside table. Wow, a second text in ond day. Must be a record. I looked at who it was from, it was from Adam.
My heart sank.
I thought it was Michael but nonetheless, I opened it and replied to the text. It was just a normal text on what was I doing at the moment, I replied with history assignment hoping that he would get the hint to leave me alone for a while.
Apparently, the second buzz proved that he didn't. He insisted to keep the conversation going so I told him that I would talk to him tomorrow because I was busy. I didn't care about what he thought of me then and I hated myself for it. We're going out so I should care for his feelings, right?
The next morning, I walked out of the house for school and I saw Michael further ahead of me. It seems as if he's going out of the house earlier to avoid bumping in to me.
I ran towards him making sure I was running on people's front gardens grass so that he wouldn't hear my elephant footsteps behind him. I reached him in a few moments, reached up and tapped him on the shoulder. He ignored me so I ran in front of him making him stop.
"What is your problem?"
"Just, please, give me some space but let me ask you something." He looked down at me and I looked back, there was sincerity in his eyes. "Are you going out with Adam?"
I nodded.
He looked hurt and then worried. "Just... be careful. If something happens, call me and I'll come and get you."
"What do you mean?"
"Just be careful."
"Michael, I've got a date with him tomorrow, you can't say that and expect me to be alright with it."
"Let's just say that Adam likes to rush into things."
I nodded slowly, now understanding. "So is Adam some sort of man-whore?"
"Yeah, but he's never had a girlfriend before so he's not done anything and now that he has one... just be careful."
"I thought that most the girls in school want to go out with him," I raised an eybrow, challenging Michael's theory.
