I sat in the front room, enjoying the peace and quiet whilst on the laptop. Suspension for three weeks. That meant no school for three weeks. No homework for three weeks. No stress for three weeks. No more waking up before the sun for three weeks. Sure it will go on my record but I'm not interested in getting good grades anymore so I wasn't really paying attention to lessons anymore. Teachers have picked up on this because now instead of the soft, warm smiles they normally give me... they look at me like I'm some sort of disappointment to them.
The front door opened and closed, I heard some fumbling of keys and bags before someone walked in the front room. "Oh my gosh," I looked up and saw my mum clutching her chest. "You scared me Anna!" She looked at me confused once she got her bearings straight. "What are you doing here? You've still got last period before your school's finished for the day."
"I got suspended today," I shrugged and returned back to my futile, random googling.
"Are you joking?" Mum asked seriously.
"Nope. The headteacher said that he was going to send a letter home to let you guys know because I told him that you two were at work."
"I wasn't at work today," mum replied confused.
"I know," I shrugged. "Just couldn't be bothered sitting any longer in that cramped office and besides, it would just be an inconvenience for you."
"How long and why did you get suspended?" She walked over to the television and switched it on before re-tying her dyed brown hair into a messy bun.
"You seem to be strangely calm about all this," I switched the laptop off. "For three weeks because I started a small food fight and that's it really. He was so pissed," I laughed. "Never seen him like that before."
"You got suspended for starting a food fight?" Mum asked in disgust. "That's so stupid! I'm going in tomorrow. They can't do something as extreme as that for something that petty. If you started a fight sure but a food fight?" She stared at me through her dark brown, almost black, eyes that I had inherited.
I laughed at my mum's reaction. I thought that she would flip out at me and shout at me and possibly ground me for two months but she seemed to find this quite amusing. I would expect that from my dad but definitely not my mum. People can be quite surprising.
"I'm going to Michael's," I stood up and donned on a brown jacket. "He's ill today so I want to see how he's doing."
"Dinner will be ready at half six if you want it," mum called after me before I left the house.
It started to rain particularly hard whilst I was walking and I couldn't help but laugh. I carried on walking the same speed whilst lifting my face upwards and closing my eyes, allowing the cold, frequent splashes of water soak me.
I arrived at Michael's house soon enough and rang the doorbell. Michael's sister answered and as soon as she opened the door, she laughed at the sight of me. I don't blame her really; my hair was most likely to be flat and sticking to my face and my makeup will have ran down making me resemble a sad clown.
"Can I see Michael?" I asked grinning at her.
She nodded whilst crouching down slightly clutching her stomach in laughter. She moved aside to let me through whilst trying to calm herself down. I patted her head before walking up the stairs to Michael's room. I knocked on the door before walking in without waiting for an answer.
"Well come on in then!" Michael smiled.
"I think I just did. How are you?"
"Great for someone who can't stop sniffing and what's happened to you?" He laughed at me. "Didn't you already run around in the rain?"
