"Val," I heard Ivan calling me from the kitchen.

Hinubad ko ang running shoes ko at ang headphones, going to the kitchen. Naabutan ko si Ivan na inilalabas ang isang mukhang cake na plain mula sa ref. I went closer to look and I was right, it's an undecorated cake with plain white frosting.

"Here." He placed the plain cake on the island counter in front of me.

I raised a brow. "What am I gonna do with this?"

May kinuha si Ivan sa counter then he showed it to me, smiling widely. "You'll decorate it." He's holding frostings, piping bags and there was also food coloring.

A warm feeling rose through my chest, feeling the excitement after seeing what I have to do. It's the first time I'll decorate a cake. "Really?"

"Yeah." He happily gave me the things that I needed, putting it beside the cake that is already on this spinning stand.

"Let me just change."

Pumunta ako sa kwarto ko at agad na nagbihis. I went through my morning routine quickly without ruining it. After I was done, bumaba agad ako. Naabutan ko si Ivan na nagluluto ng breakfast namin. The cake was already in the island counter in front of the stools. So I sat on a stool and looked at the blank canvas in front of me.

"How should I decorate it?" I asked him.

"In any way you want. I don't really care," sagot niya habang busy sa isang pan.

I have my phone with me so I searched the internet for designs.

"What's the cake for, by the way?" I asked. "And why ask me to decorate it this time when you always do it?"

Ivan baked a lot of cakes before and he always decorated everything on his own. And he's really skilled at it.

"So you can write a message. I'm not really good at writing words on a cake," he answered. He left the pan, looking over the counter.

"You want a message?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"For my birthday."

My brows furrowed. "Birthday?"

Tinignan ko ang date sa phone ko. My mouth parted when I saw the date. It really is his birthday. July 4.

"Oh my god..." I covered my mouth with a hand, looking over my phone to him. "I forgot."

"It's okay." He smiled at me. A genuine smile. "Just put a great message for me." He gestured over the cake.
