"Who is ready to cut into this pie?" Eve smiles.
"So how do we know which gender is which?" Uncle Tony asks.
"Blueberry pie is for a boy, strawberry pie is a girl." Natalie smiles answering so everyone knows.
"Let's cut it Eve." Aunt Massie smiles and cheers with Mama, Grandma, and Aunt Jewels.
We all are huddled around the kitchen table as Eve and Duke take the knife that Dad gave them to slice through the pie. As the knife slides through we are all trying too see what may be peeking through but so far nothing is able to be seen for the fact the cool whip on top is really hiding it all.
"Oh my goodness!" Eve squeals and Duke holds her with his hands on her bump.
Just a second later, a blueberry pops out of the pie as she pulls the knife out all the way. Cheers is the only thing that can be heard while seeing all the smiling faces in the house. A string of congratulations is gave to Eve and Duke as the house is full of happiness for them both during such a happy time.
For the fun of it we all enjoy dessert first with a small slice of pie before the main meal food is brought to the table. I think everyone of us men groaned while staring at the food being placed on the table in front of us as Mama, Aunt Jewels, Aunt Massie, and Natalie bring it all in.
Duke and Eve have been attached at the hip with a never ending smile on their faces. It is infectious as we all smile when watching them enjoy the news of their son. They have been whispering back and forth, which we all know they are narrowing down names after Grandpa teased them for the whispering. They can't wait until they are home to come up with a name so instead they have been working on it the last half hour together.
We all eat the wonderful food that the ladies spent the morning cooking. So many leftovers will be end up being split up is what Mama and Dad have already said. They made a honey ham then all the side works to go with it from scalloped potatoes to steamed veggies, were my favorites out of every side dish I could think of on the table.
"How is the book going Nicolas?" Mama looks over to me from the side of the table.
"George is editing it currently but all ahead of schedule. He is sending it me if he finds something otherwise it goes straight to the publisher within a couple days left of it from what he was saying last night." I answer once getting the bite swallowed.
"Do you already have an idea for the next one?" Eve pipes up and asks.
"Maybe just depends but I got some time and looking over some older ideas. May try out some new characters."
Everyone nods and we talk about random things after as everyone pitches in to help the clean up process.
"We have his name." Eve announces as we all have sat in the living room to just spend time together after cleaning up.
"All ears." We all laugh when saying it at once.
"His name will be Hinsel Nick." Duke smiles while Eve nods with her eyes tearing slightly.
"That is beautiful." Mama hugs Eve and then Eve walks over to me where I stand and hugs me tight.
"I had to name him after my Bub."
"I am honored." I smile and hug my baby sister.
"You have always been there for me Bub and I know who I can go to any hour." Eve smiles and I nod.
"You had Nicolas and your parents around that pinky of yours since the day you were born." Grandma smiles.
After some more talking between everyone the day has already turned to night. Natalie and I bid our goodbyes to everyone after several others leave.
Natalie is quiet all the way back home as I drive us, having dropped her off this morning with Eve and Mama. My nerves have came back and full force.
Once inside the house and Tootles has came in from the back yard doing his business. I sit on the couch while Natalie went to take a shower.
"Everything okay?" Natalie whispers in my ear behind me.
I startle slightly and then pull her over the back of the couch to see she is a little nightie that leaves nothing to the imagination.
"Yeah." I smile while kissing her lightly on her neck.
"You never just sit here without the television on or at least working on your computer." She giggles when I reach behind her ear.
"Well Angel, you have me nervous. You said we needed to talk and I have yet to find out why or what may be wrong."
"Oh. I am sorry, I didn't mean for you to be worried. It is just that I have to go on a small work trip."
I let out a chuckle and then a piece of me sighs. "I thought maybe it was to tell me we made a little one."
"Not yet or well I don't think we have yet, my cycle isn't due yet. That would be nerve racking wouldn't it not knowing and me just saying that? I wouldn't do that to you, I would straight up tell you we made a baby and not make you wait." Natalie smiles.
"I will not lie I am nervous as to what type of father I may be but I had a great role model growing up. Nerves are just part of it I think but not like we have been careful at all."
"That we haven't and I can't keep my hands off of you." Natalie smirks then straddles me.
"Neither can I and you won't hear me complaining one bit."
"It is a good thing Mr. Winters because I am in dire need of your log." Natalie grinds her hips down on me with a teasing smile.
"You can have me Angel, I am all yours."
