43. Emergency

The snow has melted and gave way to the spring weather. It was only a week ago that Nicolas proposed and we have been happily engaged. Since then we have been slowly making wedding plans with the help of both of our families. The date still isn't set but I have been undecided and Nicolas will not tell me a date he wants but it is looking that we could marry within a months time, only the dresses are something that none of us have went to look at.

Last night Nicolas stayed home and worked on his new book some while I went out with all the ladies. Chrissy, Mom, Hollie, Eve, and Massie made for a large girls night out but we had so much fun. Mom and Hollie have really hit it off with being friends and it warms my heart to see them get along and not have it out for each other, along with Massie in the mix too.

We all had a little spa time and it feels weird to see my nails actually painted but Eve insisted on it with Chrissy and I. Though the massage that Hollie and Mom wanted we all done too, just that it felt weird in my opinion to have a complete stranger rubbing over my back but the knots that I never even knew were there are out and I can move so much easier this morning.

"Good morning Ms. Ambrose." A doctor nods to me when I get on the elevator.

"Good morning." I smile and then press the button for my office.

Today I have to be here due to some scheduled appointments that require a in person meet instead of the phone calls. One is a new patient again and those are always needed to be made in person. Then there are some patients I seen in person because they are able to hide to much behind the phone calls since they are more on showing emotion on their face so I need to see them to be able to do my job right and truly know how their mental state is.

Getting off the elevator I round the corner and see Massie.

"Hey girlie! Just who I was waiting on." She holds out a cup of coffee.

"Thanks." I smile and accept the cup.

"Don't mention it. I took Jewels and Hollie theirs just a little bit ago because I have free time for a bit."

"On call again?"

She nods. "Yup and at the very beginning of the labor. Jewels needed it after pulling a double shift between last night and now this morning, they seriously need to hire more ped nurses or something. Even Hollie is over the top busy today with one doc being out sick themselves."

I sigh and shake my head. "It sadly seems there is always one department needing more help then when the hosptial gets them handled nicely another one needs help."

"People aren't loyal to many jobs anymore or just don't want to work." Massie shrugs. "Anyways. Are you super busy today?"

"Eh, not super busy. I have several appointments today but there is space in between them for filing and such I plan to do while here too."

"Helpful when a schedule is like that."

"It is and makes it to where I can get home and help cook dinner."

"I hear that once this mother delivers I will be off the clock which is nice because hubs has a date night planned for us."

"Now that sounds exciting." I smile and she nods.

We talk a bit longer before saying goodbye so I could make it to the office a little bit before my patient should arrive. Once in the office, I start up the computer and pull out the file for today's patient even though I have everything digital I still have the paper file for quick notes during a session then it gets put in the computer after the visit before the next patient is set to arrive. Most patients will not go over the alotted amount of time I have set for every patient but I make sure appointments are spaced as such for just incase a patient needs more time than normal and that way they won't feel like it is a rushed ending.

The day wears on and lunch passes by to quickly. Nicolas is still helping at the photography shop so we didn't talk during lunch since he had a photo session.

Another patient later after lunch that I have just finished putting their file away when my personal cell phone started ringing. I pull my purse out of the drawer I keep it in and sigh. I swear I put it on vibrate but at least I am not with a patient since it would have been unprofressional.

I see that is it Jack and I frown. It is odd because he never calls or texts me but we changed numbers a while back incase I needed help and my Dad was working.

'Hello?' I answer.

'Natalie, Nicolas is in the emergency room here at the hospital.'

'What! What happened? Does Hollie and Eve know?' My mind goes frantic.

'They know I done spoke with them. We don't know what is going on right now. The doctor won't let me be in the room currently and they are trying to figure everything out. Nicolas was in the middle of the photo session and passed out.'

'I am on my way down now.' I shake my head and then turn my computer off. We hang up and I grab my purse getting out of my office.

The other therapist is in today, so I run across the hall and thank the freaking stars the light isn't on so I knock and walk in since she doesn't have a patient.

"Hey could you reschedule all my patients the rest of the day for me please. These are their files. I have an emergency." I ask and hand her the file.

"Of course. Keep me informed if you need anything else." She nods and smiles at me.

"Thank you!" I say before I am out the door once more and in the main hall making a dash to the elevator. We never hung out but when it comes to work we work together nicely but that is as far as it has ever went she is a older woman and just wants to work with nothing more but at least we are friendly to each other and I have done for the same for her when her husband had a heart attack and she had to leave immediately.

My heart is in my throat as I make it to the emergency room and hope with everything in me that Nicolas is okay.
