Last night with Eve was the best

Last night with Eve was the best. Having dinner alone is not always what it is cracked up to be, since cooking for myself tends to leave me with tons of left overs.

Sure I have dated but nothing ever lasted long. Most seem like they wanted more in life than I could ever give them. Or the whole I had cancer as a child threw people off for some reason once a relationship got far enough to be brought up, because they don't want to be with someone who could become sick again later in life or fear of medical debt so that was relationships I knew weren't going any further.

At some point, I figure the right person will come along. I don't look for it at every twist and turn. Just hold out hope one day I will meet someone special for me. Dad says I will know it when it happens. Yes I do get out there too, besides super markets make you meet all kinds of people. Those dating apps I got out of after the fourth failed date attempt with all different people and they were treating the app for more of a hook up service.

If I wanted a hook up then I talk to George my friend and editor. For my twenty first birthday Dad, Uncle Tony, and George got together and took me to a strip club. Now that was a fun birthday but then again so much money wasted to be left hard and not satisfied, which does help the ladies make a living but is torture for men that put themselves through that too.

I get out of my car and walk into the hospital. First, I plan on going to my scan then I will be asked to wait around for the results.

Once signed in, I sit and wait for my name to be called. Time passes when waiting when tending to things on the phone, which currently is making sure my bills went through.

My scan is done and in no time, I am making my way to the pediatric floor. Once the elevator opens I walk down the hall and see Aunt Jewels at the nurses station.

"Hey Bud!" Aunt Jewels smiles.

"Hey Aunt Jewels. Is Mama overly busy today?"

"Just the normal little man." Mama's voice speaks up to the side and behind me.

"I am not a little man anymore." I smirk.

"No you may be taller than I am but you will always be my little boy." Mama smirks right back.

"Oh this is juicy." A nurse comes up and Aunt Jewels shushes her.

"You guys enjoy lunch." Aunt Jewels smiles and takes Mama's laptop and papers.

"We will bring you something up too." Mama thanks Aunt Jewels before we leave for the cafeteria.

At least today the meals are the better ones. Plus this hosptial does take pride in making good food and not the sterotypical hosptial food. Still I go for a slice of pizza, salad, and a slice of lemon pie. Mama following doing the same then grabbing a sub for Aunt Jewels. I pay for all the meals before Mama could since she made sure I got in line first like I was a younger child still, which got me a look from her for paying for the meals.

"Shouldn't let me in front of you still." I chuckle.

Mama gives me that same look Dad has done over the years. I shrug it off though because I know they aren't mad at me and I want to do things for Mama too.

"How was the scan?"  Mama changes the subject.

"It was good, just the same as always." I smile and hold a chair out for Mama.

"From what I have had the department hasn't been overly busy today and got all our results back to us in a timely manner. So it should be a good sign that you won't be here waiting around for too awful long." Mama smiles while sitting down.

"Doesn't bother me none Mama. Everyone is busy at times and I don't mind waiting around if need be. Besides, I can work from my phone should I get overly bored." I shrug because it isn't no big deal at all really.

There is never a need to be a hard patient and demand to have my results immediately. People have to bring the scans up and then look at them and emergencies come up that may need attention on faster so it really don't bother me.

Mama and I eat while talking over this and that. She had some of the same questions that Eve had. Plus we talked about things being made for Thanksgiving dinner and then when we can start decorating. Now the decorating part I am all for and ready but like every year I do wait until at least Thanksgiving is over, or well Mama and I wait.

Together we make way back to the pediatric floor, I give Mama a hug and one to Aunt Jewels. After saying bye, I make way to the oncology floor's doctors office to sign in for the appointment.

Within just a short time, I am signed in and sitting in a chair waiting. An older man does strike up conversation with me on just random things. Mainly how the weather is already cold but been lucky to not have at least one snow so far this season. It is all still nice to have someone to speak with, in a way it helps get the mind from thinking exactly where you are or what news may lay ahead of a person.

My name is called and I shake hands with the gentleman wishing him a good appointment. The nurse goes through the normal steps before every appointment with vitals and making sure nothing has changed.

"Any signs of fatigue, nausea, forgetfulness?" The nurse asks.

"No, none of that." I reply with no issue since I haven't.

"How much sleep do you get a night?" She then asks and has me raising an eyebrow.

"I don't count but maybe six to eight depends. When I am tired I go to bed and wake up whenever that may be, since I don't set up alarms often with my line of work."

She nods and types everything in before letting me know the doctor will be in shortly.

A knock sounds on the door and Dr. Moore walks in. Not sure when this guy may retire, he worked here well before I was had cancer as a child but Mama says he loves his job.

"Good evening, Mr. Winters."

"Good evening and please just Nicolas." I smile and shake his hand.

"So we done your routine scan today." He hums and sits down to look at his laptop.

"Yes, sir. It has been five years since the last one." I nod slowly.

Dr. Moore looks back to me and closes the lid on his computer before crossing his legs and clapsing his hands together.
