"More like how did the date go last night?" Eve mumbles right after Dad's question in between her bites of food.

I almost choke on the crepe and give a side eye to Eve. "Throw me under the bus there."

She shrugs. "I am not the one who has been swooning secretly and if memory serves right you threw me under the bus with Duke."

I can't help but smirk.

That is true! I threw Eve under the bus quick when she first had her date with Duke and had snuck out of the house to even go. I couldn't very much lie to Mama when she called wondering if Eve was at my house and she wasn't. What can I say even over the phone Mama, like Dad, can tell if we are lying so I couldn't just lie but I had known what she was doing and where she was going with Duke.

"Not completely my fault you got tongue tied together and didn't get back home before Mama would've checked in on you. So you missed your own set curfew you told me you would be home by and we didn't know if he could've been a serial killer." I defend myself.

"Really a serial killer at eighteen?" Eve sasses.

I shrug.

"Okay you two." Dad chuckles at us from across the table.

"I thought they wouldn't continue this as adults. Both their arguements are valid." Mama sighs and rubs her temples.

"We do not argue." Eve and I say together, then end up laughing.

"Yeah but you two can carry on the longest debate in history." Dad sighs.

"Wonder where they learned that from." Mama looks to Dad and smirks.

"Guilty. Now Nicolas." Dad smiles wide. "You really have our interest. This is the first actual date we are hearing about."

With a sigh I sit back in my chair. "I have dated before you know."

"Yeah but none of them ever lasted or made you google eyed like you were when we talked about Natalie." Eve snickers.

Mama smirks and stares at me while Dad is doing the same.

"Okay so there is a major pull to Natalie. Nothing even remotely was a possibility until I knew she was not my therapist. Unlike others who I have dated in the past ran once it got to the point with talking about past part of lives they all ran because none of them wanted to be tied down to a man who could get sick again and leave them with medical debt. Natalie isn't like that, she doesn't care not even at the chance that something could show in six months. It felt right when we had our date last night."

"Did you wake up with a smile this morning Bub?" Eve asks ever so kindly next to me.

"Yeah I did." I smile at Eve.

"Does your heart beat faster with her?"

I nod since I took another bite of the crepe.

Eve hums as she chews her bite and Mama snickers.
