Mingi flips off their manager and now must pay the price. Predebut (also their ages are set back one year than they actually were when they debut)
Trying to debut as a new group with people that you've only known for maybe a year at the least was not an easy task for anyone. For those under the adult age, it became even harder because they were putting their futures in the hands of someone that they didn't know.
Being a leader was hard too because you were being trusted to guide a group of people you do not know. Hongjoong was just glad that he was only debuting with seven other guys and not more than ten like some groups that he knew (cough, cough NCT).
When Hongjoong met the group of kids, because he couldn't even call them adults since they weren't, that he was meant to lead, it was a little over a year before their actual debut. Meaning that six out of the eight of them were eighteen and younger and had just recently graduated from school. Practice normally went well and there were several meetings with the staff, managers and even the CEO to go over what was expected of the team and of their staff. They also went over the rules, expectations, curfews and everything else that a bunch of seventeen to nineteen year olds needed to know in order to be successful.
He prided himself on being able to easily read other people and know their strengths, weaknesses, triggers and joys within a short time after meeting them. But nothing could have prepared him for this.
"Just f*ck off already, okay?!" The loud shout silenced the entire room. It was so quiet that the drop of a fork could be heard. Everyone looked at Mingi, the one who had said that so loudly, with open mouths and wide eyes.
"You got a lot of nerve treating me like this, punk" One of the managers advanced on Mingi. It was safe to say that Hongjoong did not like this manager. He was rude, too straightforward and didn't know how to watch his mouth around kids.
"He didn't mean it hyung. He was just reacting" The other 99 line members got in between their friend and the manager.
"Reacting or not, it is never okay to treat your staff like this! Show some respect" The manager spat at Mingi, making the kid flinch. Hongjoong firmly pointed to the door, signaling that it was time for their staff to leave. The manager scoffed but there was a fire in Hongjoong's eyes that had him leaving in a hurry.
"Your lucky, Mingi-ah. I heard some managers are much harsher than that if an idol flipped them off" Wooyoung saw the opportunity to turn this into a teasing moment and he took it. Mingi looked at him with scared eyes.
"What do you mean? What would they do?" Mingi begged to know, scaed for the answer but also curious.
"Why they cut their fingers off of course" Wooyoung grinned evilly. Hongjoong shook his head. There was a clear difference between the ones that had been trainees for a long time and the ones who had only been trainees for a short time and knew almost nothing about the idol industry. Mingi was one of those that knew almost nothing. He would believe anything that was told to him, which made Wooyoung's stories much more amusing. At least to some.
"Wooyoung, that's enough" Seongwha stepped in, giving the kid a glare. Wooyoung shrugged and backed off.
"Do they actually do that hyung?" Mingi didn't believe that could be true but he had heard some horrific things that happened to idols.
"No Mingi, he was just messing with you" Hongjoong took a seat. He was almost used to this now, having to step up as leader in more ways than one. He hadn't punished the whole group yet, only two of them, but those two incidents gave him the confidence he needed to do this.
"That doesn't mean flipping off our staff is okay, Song Mingi. We've only been here a short time but I would appreciate us at least having the chance to debut before getting kicked out of the company for disrespect to the managers and attitude, wouldn't you?" Hongjoong glanced once at Seongwha, his eyes darting to the door for a second. The oldest got the hint and left with everyone but Mingi.
"I guess. I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me" Mingi shrugged, picking at his fingers. He didn't feel bad, the manager deserved it but he did feel guilty for possibly worsening the chances of all eight of them debuting.
"I do" Hongjoong responded. Mingi looked at him, wondering how the future leader could possibly know that.
"It's not that hard. Your in a new company, you've only been training for a few months and now your set to debut with seven other people you barely know. It's scary and different and it's going to take a while to adjust. I get it" Hongjoong explained. Mingi nodded, that pretty much summed up everything he was thinking and feeling.
"You know our hyung is going to be making a call to the CEO and he's going to be checking to make sure this was dealt with so I don't really have much of a choice. I have to do this" Honjoong pointed out. Mingi did know and he didn't argue.
"I'm going to start now, okay?" Hongjoong warned before he did start. He knew that Mingi tended to get anxious so it was best to give a warning before something was about to happen. He had figured that out real quick.
It was over soon and Hongjoong allowed Mingi to take all the time he needed. It didn't take long, Mingi got over things surprisingly fast, and then he stood up, backing away from Hongjoong.
"Don't be like that. You took your punishment, it's over now and forgotten. Let's go make sure the others haven't killed each other" Hongjoong linked arms with his tall dongsaeng and they left the room, going to check on the rest of their team. It was safe to say that Mingi never flipped anyone off again and the few times he did, he would look at Hongjoong with nervous eyes.
