Seongwha had always wanted to fly when he was younger. Some of that was due to his hyung, the only person that let Seongwha fly. His older brother used to lift Seongwha above his head and run around, giving the illusion of freedom and flight.
Hongjoong wanted to be far away. He used to dream up the most magical of places and if he closed his eyes, it was like he was actually there. He was a pirate captain, a knight in shining armor, a prince. He could be anything.
Now they both just wanted to get away. Who knew that being the oldest in a kpop group would include more than just singing and dancing and working? No, they had to actually treat these guys like literal children. It was exhausting most of the time. Seongwha knew that Hongjoong got stressed out, probably more than the oldest did.
Hongjoong rubbed a hand over his eyes, being careful not to irritate them, as he stepped into the dark room and stumbled his way over to his bed. Seongwha stirred a little, his eyes opening and looking over at Hongjoong.
"Go to sleep Hwa" Hongjoong mumbled sleepily. He had left for two seconds and of course, Seongwha would know and wake up.
"Where'd you go?" Seongwha's voice was lower than normal, weighted with sleep.
"Just to get some air. It's..." Hongjoong stopped. Seongwha didn't need to be worried about how Hongjoong was feeling.
"Suffocating?" Seongwha guessed. Hongjoong looked down at the sheets and nodded. Seongwha didn't see but he knew what Hongjoong's answer was. They were both quiet for a moment.
"Goodnight Seongwha" Hongjoong laid down.
"Let's get away" Seongwha sat up instead, looking over at the other bed on the opposite side of the room.
"Huh?" Hongjoong opened his eyes again. So much for sleep.
"Let's get away. Just go somewhere" Seongwha repeated.
"We can't do that. Goodnight" Hongjoong shook his head. Seongwha groaned, slouching down.
"But Hongjoong-" Seongwha went to argue. Hongjoong sat up and turned to him, flicking on the lamp beside his bed. Seongwha was sulking; the leader almost gave in but there was one problem. They couldn't just leave!
"Goodnight Seongwha" Hongjoong repeated, firmly. Seongwha reluctantly accepted the rejection and laid back down. Hongjoong did the same, turning off his light and staring at the ceiling. A moment later, he felt someone lying down practically on top of him.
"We could go to the beach...just you and I. No dongsaengs around, just us, the sand and the water" Seongwha pleaded. Hongjoong tried to block him out. Seongwha grinned; he knew what he was doing.
"We could sleep in and get massages whenever we wanted. We'll stay in a really nice hotel and have our own beds... we could even have our own rooms" Seongwha added, his voice getting lighter. Hongjoong turned his head away. He had to admit, the idea was appealing to him and getting more convincing by the second.
"We wouldn't have to share a bathroom with two other people and there would be hot water to shower with whenever we wanted" Seongwha lifted his head to look at Hongjoong, who finally gave in and sat up, pushing Seongwha out of his bed.
"You better be so damn quiet" Hongjoong warned, getting out of bed and pulling out their suitcases. Seongwha nodded, pulling out his clothes and folding them into the suitcase. Hongjoong grabbed their things from the bathroom, tiptoeing to avoid waking the 99 line and Jongho. They grabbed their passports and snuck out the door, not putting their shoes on until they were outside. It wasn't until they got to the airport and were getting ready for takeoff that Hongjoong started having second thoughts.
"Why are we doing this? This is a terrible idea! The dorm will be burnt down when we get back, we should go back right now!" Hongjoong got up, moving to grab his suitcase when Seongwha grabbed his wrist and pushed the leader back into his seat.
"They're adults, what's the worst that could happen?" Seongwha had full confidence that their dongsaengs would be fine. San and Yunho were really responsible and Wooyoug knew how to cook. They would be fine.
"I trust them. We deserve this break" Seongwha added. Hongjoong slouched down in his seat, feeling embarrassed. This was a terrible idea. And this wasn't even the first time they had done something like this. Hongjoong's face turned red at the memory of how much Yunho's hand stung.

"So...." Wooyoung looked at Yeosang, Mingi and Jongho. Hongjoong at least had enough sense to leave a note behind, with a list of instructions and also a warning that the rules still applied even without the warning presence of the oldest two. And failure to follow the rules would result in a spanking, no matter where Hongjoong and Seongwha were. There were plenty of other idols that would be more than willing to step in and take care of the younger members of Ateez."They left" Mingi stated, reading the note again. Yunho and San came back into the room, looking stressed.
"Yep, their just gone. Even the suitcases and clothes are gone" Yunho nodded to confirm that fact.
"Why would they leave? Did we do something?" Yeosang wondered. Everybody shook their heads. They didn't think any of them had done anything, at least not enough to cause their hyungs to just leave in the middle of the night.
"No, we didn't do anything. See, it says that they just needed a break?" Yunho pointed to the part of the note where it said that. Yeosang looked at it and nodded, feeling better.
"Why would they leave then? I get wanting a break but it seems irresponsible to leave in the middle of work, we have a comeback soon! And in the middle of the night? What if something happened to them?" Wooyoung panicked. San hugged him.
"I promise, nothing happened to them. Hyungs will be okay, Wooyoung. And we can take care of ourselves, right? We're adults, we know what to do to keep things running" Yunho assured the others.
"You should be the leader" Jongho blurted out, catching Yunho off guard.
"Huh?" Yunho reacted before thinking, looking confused.
"Jongho's right. Your the next oldest and arguably the most responsible one out of all of us. It's only right" Wooyoung grumbled, agreeing reluctantly. Yunho stared at him. He didn't want to be leader, that was still Hongjoong's forte, and Yunho was in no rush to take over. But, maybe it wouldn't hurt. Just for a little while, until their real leader returned.
"Fine. But then Yeosang is my second" Yunho accepted. Yeosang shook his head, rejecting the offer. He was in no position to be taking that responsibility. He could do it, but he didn't want to. Before an argument started, Yunho's phone rang and he looked at it, his face paling.
"Is it hyung?" Mingi wondered, dropping his voice to a whisper. Yunho answered no and accepted the call.
"Hi manager-nim" Yunho tried to sound as normal as possible. Everyone held their breaths in anticipation.
"Oh, I'm sorry about that. Seongwha-hyung and Hongjoong-hyung aren't feeling well right now so their still sleeping it. I don't think they'll be able to do any schedules or come to practice for a few days" The lie slipped out way too easily. Wooyoung's mouth dropped open; he had never heard Yunho lie before. Like ever.
"No, I don't think that's necessary. I'm sure they just need to rest" Yunho answered, glancing nervously at his friends. They were all watching, not daring to move or even breathe until Yunho got off the phone.
"Alright, hyung. I'll be sure to tell them that" Yunho smiled, making his voice more persuading. He hung up after bidding their manager goodbye and his face darkened.
"I swear, the second they walk through that door, their lives will end" Yunho muttered darkly. Yeosang backed away, grabbing Wooyoung's arm and taking his friend with him. San was right behind them and Jongho even followed. Mingi was not about to be the only one left behind with Yunho so he ran after the others. Pretty soon they would have to go to the company but they had some time to hide and let Yunho calm down.
