"Hey...Harry" I breathed out, having the slightest smile creep up on my face.
"Vanessa..." his voice rang through the phone, "W-why do you call?"
I shrugged although knowing he couldn't see me, "I got your message, I thought it was necessary"
"You just got that message?" he asked, "I sent it a while ago, I thought you igno-...didn't get it"
"It's probably the distance" I told him, looking at the wood I sat at.
We shared an almost awkward silence of me biting my lip and him doing God knows what and I found myself wondering why I called him in the first place.
"How's Australia?" he asked, killing the silence.
"Hot" I answered having it be the first thing to pop through my mind, "But it's amazing out here"
"I'm glad you finally got to get out of the UK Ness" he said warmly having my stomach flip, "It's massively overdue"
"'Massively overdue'?" I laughed, "Since when has your vocabulary branched out?"
"My vocabulary has always been extensive" he defended with a chuckle, "I guess you held me back from it"
"How so?"
"With how fucking deep you get" he laughed.
"I don't get that sentimental"
"'People remember your dying words rather than your memorable ones'" he mocked in a voice he thought sounded like mine.
"I don't talk like that" I laughed, "I'm surprised you even remember that"
He said nothing but I imagined him doing that small shrug and smile he always used to do.
"You haven't really left my mind through this all"
"What?"
"Meaning that I don't really know where we are, Vanessa" he explained, "Have we broken up or what?"
I exhaled sharply from the sudden change of conversation.
"Is that not why you called me?" Harry asked.
"N-no" I stuttered, "But if that's what you want to talk about..."
"It's just something I wish to have more knowledge about"
I stifled a laugh, realising just how big Harry's vocabulary has gotten.
"Well, if you asked me I'd think we left it kind of unfinished" I told him as I bit my bottom lip hoping not to say anything that can anger him.
"Are we going to finish it?" he asked me, his voice sounding deep and slow as it always did but with just a hint of a rasp.
I brought my knees to my chest, looking up at the stars that complemented the night sky and thinking of the words to compile together and tell him.
I opened my mouth, ready to tell him my response when I heard the front door behind me unlock and quickly open. Making me turn to see who it was.
"Are you coming?" Gen asked, poking her head out from the door frame.
"Yeah" I whispered hoping Harry couldn't hear, "I'll be right there"
She nodded, and left the door ajar for me to come back inside and join everyone out back.
"Hey Harry, I'm sorry I have to go" I explained feeling guilty for not being able to answer his question.
"Yeah, yeah. No need to be sorry" he said, "I'm sure I'm keeping you away from your fun"
