Ch. 6

I screamed as loud as I could, but the giant holding me was not at all phased. As for the student, he was nearly as alarmed as I was. I could hear the urgency in his voice.

"Mr. Sharp! Give her to me! I-I'll take her to class,"

"No. First of all, why aren't you in class already?"

"Cuz I was late... the first day."

"If you don't want detention on the first day of school... again... then you'll get to class NOW,"

"Okay, but let me take her with me-"

"Mother earth! You Mangello's think because your dad donates money here that you can just do whatever you want?! This delinquent will be going straight to the principal's office. Humans are not allowed to walk on the floor in a giant hallway!"

"But-"

"I swear to the gods, these humans are literally setting us up to look bad. If this kid had been stepped on, who do you think everyone would blame? The poor little human, or the giants who weren't watching their step. My gods, the whole point in having separate hallways is so we don't have to watch our step for once!"

The teacher huffed, and started stomping down the hallway. He walked faster than any giant holding me ever had. The movement was making me feel dizzy, not to mention it was getting beyond claustrophobic being trapped in here as I was.

"Stop following me kid!"

"I'm not leaving her alone with you,"

"Fine, then you can just escort yourself to the principal's office as well,"

Finally I was set free from the fist when I was thrust upon Principals Howard's desk.

"Billy, what is going on?" Principal Howard asked, as he leaned closer examining me. Then, the student from earlier barged into the office as well, and Principal Howard seemed to paused before smiling.

"Principal Howard! I can explain. S-She got lost and then her e-scooter ran into me, and then-"

"This student was on the ground in the giant hallway near the math wing. That is against school rules, is it not?"

Principal Howard then surprised us all, when he broke out into a rumbling laugh.

"Forgive me, I'm just having a moment of deja vu," Principal Howard said. "Let's just say it's not the first time I've ended up with a Sharp, a Mangello, and a Reed in my office on the first day of school,"

What was Principal Howard referencing?! Trent? Oh right, I have to remember I have a "sibling" who went here about a decade ago.

"Billy, do you know who this student is?" Principal Howard asked, referring to me. Once again, all the eyes in the room were on me. I couldn't necessarily see all the eyes, but I felt the focused energy from the three giants in the room.

"This is a rule breaker-"

"This is River Reed," Principal Howard said, interrupting this Mr. Sharp guy.

All the air in the room seemed to have been sucked into Mr. Sharp when he gasped. If I hadn't been watching his reaction I would have laughed at how dramatic his gasp sounded. Instead, I was looking into his gray eyes that stared at me with pure anger.

"Of course it is," Mr. Sharp finally spoke through gritted teeth.

"Billy, as a parapro, we don't need you man handling students and creating a PR disaster. This is a mixed school, and sometimes humans do dumb things like walk on the floor in a giant hallway. I think we've learned by now that in New Earth, it's better to just get them somewhere safe over trying to make a revolution,"
