***JACOB POV - EARLIER IN THE NIGHT***
"JAKEY!"
No. My stomach sank hearing Candace call me by my the stupid pet name she'd given me as soon as I entered the party. I can't do this anymore. My parents are both right. I should end things with Candace. I've essentially strung her along for long enough. This is high school, not some complicated marriage. I shouldn't be tied down to Candace... especially since she's... Candace.
"Hey handsome, happy to see me?!" Candace asked as she twirled in a circle showing off her skintight dress. I will admit, Candace was hot. She stood tall in her heeled boots that made her nearly my height. Her dress showed off her curves that any giant would be crazy not to like. The only thing wass, a hot body doesn't make you a good partner. "Jakey?"
Sh#t, I'd zoned out. I keep zoning out around Candace.
"You look amazing Candace," I answered like a good obedient boyfriend. I slipped into this role way too easily. It was moments like this that I wanted to find a nice strong beverage to get me through this night. Of course, there was an unfairly slim chance I'd get away with drinking tonight. Yet another disadvantage to being a giant as opposed to being human in my family. Parisa could totally come home and just hustle her way off to bed without our parents even noticing, and if they did notice, it's not like her every feature was as easy to take in. If I came home after having even one drink, Dad might somehow smell it on me, or see it in my eyes. It's not fair!
"You look pretty hot yourself," Candcace said as she pulled me into a kiss. My actions felt robotic. It wasn't a long or passionate kiss, it was just the action I was used to doing to keep up my end of the boyfriend gig.
"Are you drinking tonight?" Candace asked.
"I'm not sure yet. You know I tend to somehow get caught,"
"That sucks. At least come grab a snack or something with me,"
Candace grabbed my hand and dragged me through the crowd of giants. The music was loud enough to feel the vibrations through my chest. As we weaved in and out of people, I caught sight of my buddy Trevor sandwiched between no less than two giantesses. Ha, good for him. He's been wanting to find a date to Fall Ball. Glad to see he's putting himself out there.
When we reached the kitchen area, I was annoyed by the loud cheering I heard coming from the other side of the room. I saw a bunch of football jocks huddled around the large kitchen table shouting like they were watching a football game. Mother earth! Didn't the game already happen earlier tonight?
Ok- I'd said earlier that I wasn't going to get through this night sober. Maybe one drink wouldn't be so noticeable. It could at least take the edge off.
I rolled my eyes as I heard yet another loud cadence of hoops and hollers coming from the jocks on the other end of the kitchen.
"ISSAC! ISSAC! ISSAC! ISSAC!"
Great. They were cheering for Issac Green, a guy I'd spent more than enough time spiraling about lately. I finally examined the jocks to find Issac and the idiot from my art class, Noah Stross, arm wrestling.
"OHHHH!!!!" The jocks all shouted when Issac beat Noah. Pssh, of course Issac beat Noah Stross. Issac was f#cking huge. Are high schoolers supposed to be that jacked? Mother earth! It's not fair. How does he get to be that football dude, be a star student, and get to walk River to class! Sit with River at lunch?! I don't get it!
"Want a beer or a cider?" Candacce asked, holding up options for me. I saw she'd already poured a glass of punch for herself. She knew I wouldn't want that juice with gods only knows how much alcohol mixed in. No, I'm better off with a beer. I took a long gulp of my beer before Candace practically pounced on me yet again. She was being more physical than normal tonight. What the F#ck?
