At the check-in for the dance Parisa and I had to go through the human entrance to get to the co-ed section. Something about the check-in process... so we had to separate from Issac and Jacob. Parisa seemed beyond happy as she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the long line of humans. I saw how many humans had intricate patterns, and sparkly designs on their outfits. None of the giants in Issac's group had such lavish outfits on for tonight. Wow. I guess humans really really dressed up for this kind of stuff.

"Alone at last!" Parisa said once we made it to the back of the line.

"Thanks for coming with us. I'm glad you were in this group," I replied.

"I'm glad I'm here. If I was at home right now I would have been sulking about Eric, and throwing a pity party. This is much better,"

"I'm really sorry about Eric," I replied, honestly. I feel so bad. I mean even though I didn't do anything to actually hurt him or something, I did lie about him, and then he disappeared. Ugh, this was so messed up.

"Thanks. Yeah, I really can't . But really I'm sorry about Eric. I've been meaning to tell you, I'm really sorry for what Eric did to you,"

"Oh that's okay. I'm way better now," I said, feeling a stronger wave of guilt consume me.

"But for real. Eric didn't actually hate you. He hates me because... I didn't like him how he wanted me to like him,"

I didn't know how to reply. Parisa stared at me with an intensity that matched Jacob's. Even though I know they aren't blood related, the way their gazes bared deep into my eyes made me feel like this skill must run in the family.

"Hey Parisa, is this your date?!" a human girl I recognized as being another girl from the soccer team asked in a very unfriendly tone.

"Get a life Bianca," Parisa replied defensively.

"I'm just clocking how fast you've moved on from Eric," this Biance girl replied.

"You're trying to get a rise out of me, and it won't work," Parisa said through gritted teeth.

Bianca's attention shifted from Parisa to me. Biance had light blonde hair that was so light it almost looked white. Her skin was pale, making her bright pink lipstick stand out. She also wore the fanciest dress I'd seen so far. It was strapless and pink, going all the way to the floor and even dragging behind her with a small train. Biance's dark brown eyes seemed to inspect me, looking me up and down, before pursing her lips. "So you're River Reed?"

I shook my head yes as my only reply.

"Be careful with this one. She's apparently a master manipulator and a f#cking liar," Bianca said before walking away.

I looked at Parisa who seemed to be burning with anger.

"F#ck Bianca! She has always hated me," Parisa began to explain. "It started when I made varsity soccer before her. She tried to blame it on me getting some special advantage because I'm a Mangello, and my dad basically funded this school being built. And while yeah, he did, that doesn't mean he has anything to do with who is selected for the soccer team,"

"Oh. Yeah, Bianca was rude,"

"Not to mention she hated me even more when I started dating Eric. So then when I came out to my actual friends on the team- you know, explaining why Eric and I were over, it somehow got back to Bianca, giving her even more fuel to hate me. She's not a very accepting person,"

"I'm sorry that happened,"

A silence fell between us. Then when we reached the front of the line Parisa linked her arm through mine. We checked in, and were given tiny ear plugs that would make the dance safe for our human ears. Parisa told me these were Fuse brand earplugs, so they would work super well. Everything would still be super loud, but our ears wouldn't get damaged. Also these plug apparently allowed us to still hear humans and giant conversations clearly, having a mechanism that differentiated between a person's voice and music.
