***River POV***

I returned to our table, taking way longer than normal after hopping to the elevator on one foot. The metal doors slid open and I quickly noticed that Jacob and Parisa were not present. Parisa had looked so hurt when I last saw her. I hadn't meant to hurt her feelings like that. I still hadn't fully processed what Parisa had shared with me, Parisa apparently liked me? Everytime someone likes me I'm still so shocked. And while, I'm flattered that she would like me, I don't think it's fair for me to not be honest with her. But now this has greatly complicated things as Parisa is Jacob's sister. Jacob is fiercely protective of Parisa. Wont he be mad at me for hurting her feelings? But I didn't exactly do anything but for once tell the truth.

Maybe this is why I've become such a liar. My entire life has been one big lie, or at least the part so my life I can remember. Somewhere out there I know there were humans out there that were behind my being alive. My "true" parents. Why didn't they want me? Why had I even been adopted by the Reeds in the first place? And why did I have to live most of my life with a mom who was the ultimate lie? Kerry was the ultimate liar. Were my birth parents also liars? Was I a liar because of my genetics or was this because Kerry raised me? Ugh. It's not like I lied until I got here in Wendleton though. Nothing made sense.

"River! Hey, how's your foot doing?" Trent asked as he leaned closer to the table still holding Morgan in his left hand.

"Uh... it's okay..."

Trent gave me a questioning look before announcing to the table that he needed to step away and have a moment with his sister. Wait- that was me!. After Trent deposited Morgan on the pedestal his hand came down palm up. Aaron got up and helped me hop over to Trents hand and once I settled into his palm he stepped away from the table. As we weaved in between the crowd people kept stopping to congratulate Trent. Two older women I've never seen before even congratulated me on being found, which only made my face heat from feeling so awkward. It was strange how everyone here must know about the ultimate chaos that was my life. Luckily Trent must have picked up on my discomfort as he kept conversation clipped until we'd found a quietish corner to talk. It was a high top table that had a human pedestal as the centerpiece.

"Gods, people are so awkward. Honestly I hardly know half these people. Over half these random old people work at Fuse,"

"It's okay,"

"Not really. Oyy maybe I should have said something. They shouldn't bring that sh#t up the moment they meet you,"

"It's alright..."

"I mean it's not- but really that leads me to my question. River, are you alright?"

"Yeah. I can kind of feel the cut in my foot but I think the pain meds are helping."

"That's good but that's not all that I mean. I uh... I overheard what you'd said to Jacob in the bathroom... you know everything with the foot. You mentioned how he'd been mad at you. What the h#ll did he have to be mad at you about?"

...

...

...

"I... I hurt his feelings,"

"And he got mad at you? Jacob's been getting his feelings hurt since the day we all met him. Don't take his mood swings personally. Honestly I might say something to him,"

"No! Don't say anything. I think we worked it out now,"

"Sure. Well, just remember that you can always come to me if anyones giving you shit. I don't care if it's that Issac dude or Jacob and Parisa. I'll give them a piece of my mind if I have to!"
