I walked in my front door from a weekend of being way with a client. He had a business trip that he needed a plus one for. I knew this client well and knew we would have a great weekend. I came back rested and fully satisfied.

I stopped by Scott's house to get my mail since he was picking me up for me. I knocked on the door and I heard a dog bark and then I noticed my surroundings and saw Chris's car in the driveway and I groaned. I thought about walking away but the door opened and I saw Scott standing there and Dodger jumped on me excited to see me.

"Hey bubba." I said and scratched behind his ear.

"Hey, sorry I didn't know you would be coming over right now." Steve said and I just shook my head.

"I just want to get my mail please." I said and Scott nodded.

"Let me get it, you want to come in?" Scott asked.

"He in there?" I asked and Scott hung his head but nodded. "I think I'm good here." I said and I heard him groan from inside the house.

"Come in Veronica, damn." Chris stated and I just groaned and walked in but stayed right inside the door as Scott went and got my mail from wherever he was keeping. Chris came to the entryway and saw me.

"You went out of town again?" Chris asked.

"For work." I stated.

"Right....work..." Chris trailed off. I glared at him.

"Shut up." Scott said as he walked past Chris and then handed me the small stack of mail.

"Thank you." I said and he smiled as I opened the door.

"You sure you can't stay? Hang out?" Scott asked. I looked passed Scott to Chris and shook my head.

"No sorry. I need to get home and unpack and get everything ready. I have another client tomorrow night." I said.

"High demand...." Chris mumbled and walked back into the living room and I sighed.

"Bye." I said to Scott and kissed his cheek. I walked out to my car and sighed sitting behind the steering wheel. I looked at the front window in Scott's house and saw Chris standing there with his arms crossed. I just shook my head and drove away.

Chris had no right to act the way he was, he caused this and he needed to own up to it. On my way home I stopped at the store and got some groceries. I got home and put everything away, took a shower and started laundry. I sighed when I finally relaxed on my bed and started going through my e-mails from when I was gone.

Shocker, please insert sarcasm, when I found 3 new e-mail from Chris all weekend. I sighed opening the first one. Yes, sue me, I was still reading them! I know I should have been deleting them but I couldn't do that...I may hate him and be mad at him but ignoring him in this form was hard.

-Ronnie,

I drove past your house today and I saw your car wasn't in your drive. I wasn't trying to drive past your place but I was on the way to Ma's and it was the quickest way.

Everyone is making sure I get out of the house, Carly knows about the coffee shop, no one else but she is trying to keep me out of the house and keep me busy, mostly with the kids. They miss you, you should stop by soon.

Chris-

I sighed and moved it to the Chris folder. Yes he had a folder.

The second email was nothing but drivel about what he did with the kids the day before and then what his plans were that night with Ma and Scott. The third e-mail though.

-Ronnie,

Okay so...I know we aren't talking right now and I know you hate me but I just wanted to extend this invitation to you. On the weekend of my birthday, there will be a party at my house. A lot of people are coming, Scott, Carly, Shanna, probably Ma and just a lot of the gang. Wouldn't be the same if you didn't show up. I can't imagine spending a birthday without you, you have always been there...don't feel obligated, just thought I would extend the invitation.

Chris-

I panicked and looked at the calendar. Chris's birthday was in 3 days and then the party was in 5. I had 5 days to make up my mind about going to this party. He was right it would be the first birthday I hadn't spent with him. Even if he was away filming we always facetimed...we were always together in some way, but he ruined it.

I placed a reminder in my phone about his party just in case I decided to go. I knew his birthday, it was constantly on my phone. I laid my phone beside me and just stared at the ceiling. I had a tradition with Chris on his birthday but it would involve me unblocking his number on my phone and actually contacting him via text.

I decided to get working on the project in case I decided I was going to do this for him on his birthday. I had a lot of good memories going through everything I had and it was giving me trouble picking what I loved the most.

🔵 🔵 🔵

It was the day of Chris's birthday and I was sitting at my kitchen looking at his contact in my phone and I had my finger hovering over the unblock button...was I really going to do this just for a stupid birthday tradition. As I was deciding my cellphone went off with another text.

Scott: Carly and I were wondering, since it's the afternoon, if you're going to send Chris his annual birthday text from you or do one of us have to take it over?

I huffed a laugh knowing it was like they were reading my mind. I felt a twinge of jealousy knowing if I didn't send it they were going to. I sighed and answered back.

Ronnie: Thinking about sending one. Have to make it and decide. DON'T YOU DARE TELL HIM OR I KILL YOU.

Scott: Lips are sealed. 🤐

I sighed a sigh of relief and went back to my contact and just bit the bullet and unblocked his number. I then opened a text and just waited with the usual text in the text box...would he even want this? Would he even care? Would he even appreciate it. Oh fuck it, it's tradition.

I sent the montage video of some of my favorite photos of him through the years. I always loved making these for him and have done it forever. It used to be scrapbooks or small photo albums or photos on a card but since the modern day of computers and cellphones this was now much easier.

I set my phone on the kitchen counter feeling like an idiot, feeling like a dumbass and wishing I could unsent it. I looked at my phone and I saw he was reading the text. I groaned knowing this could one of two ways and I didn't know if I liked either way. Instantly my phone lit up with a message.

Chris: I was getting worried I wouldn't get this from you this year. I love it Ronnie, thank you.

I smiled feeling the gratefulness deep in my heart knowing he was super happy with it.

Ronnie: Happy Birthday meatball. Happy you loved it.

Chris: I know its forward but I would love it if you would come to the party on Saturday.

I just sighed and knew I needed to say no. I knew it was the obvious answer.

Ronnie: Well, I do have to meet a client beforehand earlier in the day but then I will be there sometime that night.

WHAT?! WHAT WAS I DOING?!?! DELETE! UNSEND!

Chris was reading the text, FUCK!

Chris: REALLY?! Oh Ronnie that's great! I will see you Saturday.

What had I just agreed to?!
