40 - All I Would Ever Need

**ONE YEAR LATER**

Chris and I had gotten married soon after the Knives Out premiere and it was just something small at his house with family and close friends. We didn't want anything to extravagant. Chris and I were happy just being us and being at home.

Another surprise we didn't know until after the wedding was that I was pregnant. We got pregnant in LA with the sex the night of our engagement and premiere. Chris shocked everyone with the proposal, even his own family who had no clue what he was planning on doing until they saw the pictures and heard the interview on Entertainment news the next night.

We had a daughter, Abigail Marie Evans. She was perfect in every single way and neither Chris nor I could imagine our lives without her.

**CHRIS POV**

I was getting home from being gone for 2 months filming. I did all I could to get back to see Abby and Ronnie as much as I could, so she didn't have to travel with a 3-month-old baby. It was only noon, and I didn't hear any movement in the house except Dodger, who came running to meet me when I walked in.

"Where are mom and Abby?" I asked Dodger, he barked then ran towards the back room. As I started to get closer, I heard the music box playing that I got Abby when she was born. I walked into the room and saw Abby asleep in her basinet and Ronnie sleeping on the bed with a basket of clothes sitting next to her not folded. I smiled just a slight shake of my head.

Mom always told Ronnie to sleep when Abby sleeps, but she never listened, she always said she could get more done around the house when Abby slept. It looked like sleep finally won out though. I walked over to the bassinet and looked at Abby. She was gorgeous, she looked like Ronnie and that made me extremely happy but also, I knew as she got older, I would be fighting off boys left and right. I made a vow to myself I would never let anyone hurt Abagail like Ronnie was hurt by me and others in her life.

I leaned down and gently kissed Abby's forehead and she gave a small whimper but didn't wake up. I then walked over to my side of the bed moving the basket of clothes, they were all Abby's, not surprising. I crawled into bed and pulled Ronnie close to me. She sighed contently and interlaced her fingers in mine that was resting on her stomach. She knew I was home, and I was happy she knew. I kissed the back of her neck and she moaned.

"Welcome home." Ronnie mumbled and I smiled.

"Happy to be home." I said and I quickly drifted off to sleep to catch up on some of the sleep I missed being away from Ronnie and Abby.

**RONNIE POV**

I sat up in a panic when I noticed Abby hadn't cried recently. When I sat up, I looked I the corner of the rom, Chris was sitting in the rocking chair finishing feeding her and getting ready to burp her. I smiled at the sight as he looked at me and smiled.

"Good afternoon sleeping beauty." Chris said and we both gave a small laugh.

"I can't believe I slept so hard. I didn't even hear her cry..." I said a little worried.

"She didn't have much of a chance to. I woke up soon after falling asleep and I took her into the living room with me so you could sleep." Chris said and I smiled at him.

"And so, you could get daddy and Abby time." I said and he laughed but nodded.

"Special time with my girl. We hung out, talked about how much I missed her." Chris said. I got up, walked over giving him a small but passionate kiss.

"Welcome home...again." I said as Chris smiled.

"It's good to be home." Chris said and I nodded I agreement.

"How was Ana?" I asked and Chris smiled. He had just worked with Ana De Armas again on another film and he smiled.

"She was good, missed you but said we will plan a get together soon." Chris said and I nodded.

Chris finished burped Abby.

"Well Abby and I had plans to take a late afternoon stroll. Would you like to join us?" I asked taking Abby from Chris and he nodded.

"I would love to join you. We can take Dodger, maybe hit that one walking trail we love." Chris said and I nodded. I got Abby dressed and ready to go, got myself looking slightly better and not like a new mom who had been alone for a couple months and then Chris got Abby in her car seat, and we left, to drive to the local walking trail we loved.

Once we arrive, we got the stroller set up, Chris pushed the stroller, it and I held Dodger's leash. I linked my arm in Chris's one arm even though he was pushing the stroller and he smiled down at me.

"This is nice." I spoke up in the silence of our walk.

"It really is. This is the life I always wanted with you." Chris said and I smiled.

"After everything that happened with you and me. You bringing girlfriends to dinners, the escort surprise of me walking in your room and then everything that happened after with us not talking and everything. Did you ever plan on this happening?" I asked.

"Hell no." Chris chuckled. I huffed a laugh and looked at him.

"Really?!" I asked.

"Ronnie, the things I called you, the things I said to you and everything in between I knew I ruined everything with you. The fact that even after you told me you were done you are now in my life, giving me the amazing family, I could have ever wanted I don't know what I did to deserve you." Chris said. He leaned down to give me a small kiss as we walked.

"Back then you may have annoyed me, pissed me off, said unforgivable and very hurtful things but even though you did everything you did, I still loved you. The love I had for you Chris was insane. Even when I hated you, I loved you. There was never any denying it. I think that's why it was no surprise when I was hurt, I called out for you and only you. You were the only person I cared about getting back for. You were always there for me, you were there why my parents died and you always took care of me even when I didn't want you to. You are the most unpredictable thing I could have gotten in my life Chris. You, Abby and Dodger are all I will ever need." I said. Chris stopped walking, leaned down and passionately kissed me.

When we broke apart Chris put his hand on my cheek.

"You are the best unpredictable surprise in my life Veronica." Chris said.

We started walking the trail again and I leaned my head on his arm as we walked knowing this was all I would ever need.
