***RONNIE POV***

It was a few days after I was brought to the hospital, and I was fully awake and finally cut from most of the painkillers. I was grateful because I didn't want to be dependent on them. Chris, Lisa and Scott never left my side. The only time I had Lisa and Scott leave was when I talked to the police about what happened and what I remembered. I asked Chris to stay as a comfort knowing I would need him if I freaked out. I knew it was unlikely to ask him to say but I felt a sense of calm around him recently and a sense of a change in him.

I was talking to the doctor with Lisa as Scott and Chris went home to shower and run by my place to grab me some things.

"Miss Malcolm, do you live alone?" The doctor asked.

"Yes..."

"Well, we were wondering if there was someone you could stay with while you recover. The ankle being severely sprained, the broken wrist and the reset shoulder, along with the internal bruising and everything you suffered it would be better if you were with someone."

"Okay well...I have nowhere to go..."

"Come one Ronnie, you know you can stay with one of us." Lisa said.

"How? All the rooms in your house are upstairs...Scott isn't going to be home much. He told me the other day he has some auditions in LA coming up that will take a few weeks..." I trailed off.

"There's someone you're forgetting that has been here for you." Lisa stated and I shook my head.

"No, I can't do that, I won't ask him." I said and Lisa groaned as the door to the room opened. Chris and Scott come walking in. They walked over and both kissed the side of my head.

"Hey, sorry. We didn't know the doc was here. What's the verdict, when can she go home?" Scott asked.

"That's what we were just discussing. She can't go home, she needs to stay with someone." Lisa answered before I had a chance.

"Well, where are you going to stay? With Ma?" Scott asked and I shook my head.

"We would prefer she be on the first floor." The doctor said. Chris just half nodded.

"Then I guess that settles it...you move in with me." Chris offered.

"Chris..."

"No Ronnie, you have me and Dodger. He would love to have the house guest. You can even have my room." Chris said and I groaned.

"I don't want to kick you out of your room."

"He hasn't been using it even before now." Scott mumbled and Chris stomped on his foot.

"Fine, it's settled Ronnie will move into Chris's house." Lisa said. The doctor nodded and left.

"Don't I get a say?" I asked.

"Ronnie, what can you possibly protest to. I mean Carly had a two-story house and the kids. Shanna only has enough room for her...Chris is your only option." Lisa explained.

I looked at Chris and he was half smiling at me.

"You can say no..."

"Why would I? I want you to help you where I can." Chris said and I just half nodded.

"Fine. I need to get some things from my house though." I said.

"Give me a list, I'll go get them for you. Have them at Chris's for when you get there." Scott offered and I nodded.

"Are you sure about this?" I questioned Chris again and he groaned. He leaned down on the bed putting a hand above my head and placing his other hand gently on my cheek.

"I'm positive Ronnie." Chris said in a tone above a whisper, and I gave a small smile.

"Okay, well when can I leave?" I asked. Everyone smiled.

Later that day we got to Chris's house.

"Chris, I can try to walk." I said and he shook his head as he got me from the car, and I wrapped my one good arm around his neck.

"You can't use the crutches well with your wrist and shoulder and you can't bare weight on the ankle...how do you expect to get in the house?" Chris asked as Lisa went ahead of us and opened the door. I just groaned as he carried me inside and Dodger was barking upon seeing me.

"Bubba, go to the bedroom." Chris said and Dodger went running.

Chris walked to the bedroom and helped me get set up in bed. I sighed once I got comfortable and Chris started fussing over me as Dodger got on the bed beside me and laid his head in my lap. I smiled and started petting him.

"Stay with her Dodger." Chris said.

"I'm going to get your prescriptions from the pharmacy. Scott should be here with your stuff soon. You two behave." Lisa said as she walked out. Chris handed me my phone and everything.

"You have some missed called from your boss..." Chris said, and I groaned.

"Yeah, I need to call her and try to give her a timeframe." I said and Chris huffed.

"Are you kidding me?!" Chris couldn't hold it in anymore.

"What?!"

"You're going to go back?! You're going to continue to work for that company and do that job?!" Chris snapped.

"Yeah I am! It's how I make a living Chris! I have to make a living!" I yelled.

"Do you see where you are?! Do you realize where you came from and why you are in this position?!"

"No Chris I don't forget why I'm here and yeah it was a bad experience, but I have to get back out there to conquer my fear!" I grumbled.

"I don't fucking get you Veronica! You get raped, beaten, left outside a hospital and you want to go back! You must seriously have nothing else going for you in your life to want to go back." Chris said. He realized what he said after he said it and hung his head.

"I have nothing going for me!? I guess you're right. I don't have a boyfriend, I don't have parents or a family of my own, I only have friends who see me as broken and want to take care of me. I have nothing in my life!" I yelled. Chris walked over and sat next to me on the bed when I moved slightly.

"You're wrong. You have a family. We may not be your blood, but we are your family and always have been. We don't look at you as broken Ronnie, we care about you and just want you to be okay. You being okay and safe means you don't go back to that fucking job." Chris said. He seemed like he wanted to mention the other thing... "And the boyfriend thing, that could have been handled by Christmas 2003 if you would have just said something when you came outside to see me and not lied." Chris added. I just looked at him. I was fighting off the tears right now, he knew...how did he know?

"Chris...what was I supposed to say to you? 'I like you so break up with the actress that I can't compete with to be with me.' Yeah, that wasn't going to play out well."

"You never gave it a chance!" Chris snapped.

"I never thought there was an option! I was willing to let you be happy, and you seemed happy!"

"I was never happy! I'm not happy now! I lost you Ronnie! I lost your friendship recently because I was stupid, which is what I just did going off on you about your job, but I only did Ronnie because I almost lost you because of that job. I can't lose you anymore Ronnie." Chris said. I placed my hand over his on the bed and he slipped his away from mine and got up.

"I'm going to see what's keeping Scott." Chris voice cracked as he walked out of the room shutting the door. I say there as tears slowly slid down my face.

Staying with Chris was going to pose a problem...
