***THE NEXT DAY***
***CHRIS POV***
We were still sitting in the room with Ronnie. She had come to a few times throughout the night but couldn't tell us anything. Any time she tried to tell us what happened she would panic, and I wouldn't let her continue. He mental health was more important to me.
I was sitting having some lunch that Scott brought us when his cellphone rang.
"It's Ma..." Scott said and I groaned.
"You may want to answer because I have been ignoring the calls." I said and Scott groaned answering putting the call on speaker phone.
"Hey Ma." Scott said.
"Hey, is everything okay? I went by your house and you're not home, so I figured you stayed at your brothers but you two aren't there either." Ma said. Scott sighed and I just hung my head. I looked at Scott and half nodded.
"Ma, I need you not to panic..." Scott started off saying.
"Scott, what the hell is going on?" Ma asked. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair.
"Okay I need you to get to Boston General Hospital." Scott said.
"Boston General Hospital? Oh god! What's happened?! Is Chris okay?! Carly?! Shanna?!" Ma panicked.
"Yeah, all the Evans children are fine..." Scott ominously said.
"If all the Evans children are safe -..." Ma trailed off and then gasped. "Oh god, I will be right there. Where should I come in?"
"Main entrance, room 530. It's a secure floor so we will let them know." Scott said and hung up. He then looked at me. "I'll go tell the nursing staff." Scott got up and walked out of the room.
They had moved Ronnie in the middle of the night to an actual room, not wanting to keep her in the ER. I just wanted to put her in a private room so we could all come and go as we pleased, and she had great care. The doctor had been in and told us everything the nurse had, then cops were called and came in to get her statement which she couldn't give. They said to call when she was awake and alert.
Scott came back in and sighed.
"Ma should be here in about 15 minutes. She called again and said she was running by Ronnie's house to get her some clothes. She doesn't know the extent Chris, but she knows it's Ronnie." Scott said and I sighed with a nod.
"Well, the fact that you eliminated all of us Evans children, who else would it be? I mean she is like Ronnie's mom." I said and Scott nodded. We continued to eat as the nurse came in to check her vitals.
"How is she?" I asked.
"Well, her vitals look good, and everything is improving. We are looking to lower her pain management so she should start waking up and being more coherent soon." The nurse said and then she smiled and walked out.
Scott and I just waited for the inevitable of Ma showing up and having a lot of questions.
After 20 minutes there was a knock on the closed door and Ma walked in. She looked at Scott and I then looked at the bed.
"Oh my god..." Ma gasped. "Ronnie..." Ma said and walked over to the bed and placed a hand on her cheek. "What happened?" Ma asked.
Neither of us answered her. We didn't know how much to tell and to be completely honest we didn't know the whole story either."
"Chris?! Scott?! What happened?!" Ma asked and we just sighed.
"We don't really know. She was dropped off at the ER like this and then they called us, her emergency contacts." Scott explained. Ma just looked at Ronnie in the bed.
"Okay where was she to end up like this?" Ma asked.
Scott and I just looked at each other.
"Ma, we really want you to know, and we don't like keeping anything from you, but we really think Ronnie should be the one to tell you everything." I sighed and Lisa just glared at me and then at Scott.
"If you boys don't tell me -..." Ma started and then sighed feeling defeated. "I should have known better even as kids you never ratted on the other one. Fine I will wait for her to wake up but when she does, I get to interrogate her." Ma said and we just half nodded.
We all sat there in silence. Ronnie started stirring a lot more and I knew she would be coming around soon. I just wanted to see her awake and responsive, not little murmurs. I wanted to hear her actually say my name in whatever context she wanted, not mumbling out my name.
Ma looked from Ronnie and up to me.
"You okay?"
"What?" I asked coming back from being zoned out.
"You okay? I know seeing her like this can't be easy for you. You always wanted to protect her and never hurt her." Ma explained.
"Been doing a bang-up job of that recently haven't I?" I sarcastically said and Ma sighed.
"Chris..."
"No, I deserve to feel like this." I stated.
"Like what?" Scott asked.
"I'm an asshole. The things I said to her that ended our friendship were the worst things I ever could have said to someone I care about. We were trying to get back to us, she missed my party, and I was mad and venting about it when the hospital called. I was selfish out whole friendship and always took her for granted never knowing how she felt and how it would hurt it whenever I said something. She had every right to be mad at me and push me away. I just want a chance to make it right. I know she may not want to be with me now, but I would like the chance to be friends again. I miss Ronnie in my life." I admitted. Ma and Scott looked at each other and gave a small smile.
Before either could open their mouths to say anything Ronnie turned her head slightly and looked at me through hooded eyes.
"Mad -...not -...anymore..." Ronnie struggled out, jumbling words due to the pain meds still in her system. She closed her eyes again but squeezed my hand. I gave a small smile.
Ma reached for my other hand and took it.
"That's a start Chris."
"And I won't waste it." I said.
