Xena M.

I never made it to the meeting the parents stage with other relationships. Actually, my other relationships never made it past the two-months mark ever. When the time came, dudes realized that I wasn't the type of chick they wanted to deal with. So, they left. Broke up with me by saying the same stupid sentence, it's not you, it's me. After the third time it happened, I called it quits with dating and stayed to myself.

Then I started to develop a thing for Burton. Clearly, that didn't begin or end well. Now, here I was married to a dude I never met before. And I was about to meet his parents for brunch. It's been four days since the marriage happened but the way time was moving it felt like two weeks went by. Yesterday, was the first day I was in the house alone all day. Even Kasey dogs weren't there to entertain me. Not like I wanted them there anyway but you could still feel the loneliness sparking.

I don't recall when Kasey came home since I'm sure I was already sleep by then. This morning was iffy too. Our conversation lasted for a second before he had to leave for work. I had a feeling this was going to be a routine of me being home alone while he's at work. I needed to find a hobby quickly before I die of boredom. Until then, I was wondering what his parents wanted from me today.

Sitting in the backseat of the truck, I stared out the window as we drove by buildings and residents. It was a rainy morning and people still felt the need to walk to wherever they were going. My mind refused to wrap around that concept but I kept quiet on it. I'm sure I was being annoying constantly questioning what people down here do. They were accustomed to their lifestyle and I was just living in it.

Unfortunately.

"Mrs. Langston!" I heard Davon's voice and I turned to look at him.

He was sitting in the passenger seat while Cody drove us today. Requested, the two of them came along with me for this meetup. I was nervous about the entire thing only because I had no idea what I was walking into. During the wedding, no one on Kasey side of the family addressed me. They addressed Franklin and Cynthia though. Even my brothers and Jada. But no one came to me while I sat at the long table, bored and sad.

Yes, I did feel some type of way about it. But I didn't bother to make a fuss since I was already being looked at as a rebel. Showing out during my wedding would've confirmed that. However, I did see the dirty looks from a few folks, including Mrs. Langston. Deep down, I had a feeling she was going to be a major problem.

"Xena, I mean," Davon corrected himself. "My apologies."

"It's alright. What's up?" I asked.

"Mr. Langston wanted to know if you're alright?" He asked, waving his phone from side to side.

"Uhh, I guess so." I shrugged. "I'm not all the way sure. I don't understand why I'm meeting his parents. Without him too."

Davon went on his phone and started typing. I assumed he was saying exactly what I had said and I didn't want Kasey to know that.

I leaned forward and held my hand out. "Please don't tell him that," I begged, stopping him. He looked at me then nodded his head.

"Alright, I'll just tell him that you're okay."

I nodded, approving. "Thank you. But seriously, why am I meeting his parents?" I asked again, searching and hoping for an answer.
