"Because of the accident, the patient had a carotid artery aneurysm which resulted in internal bleeding. We were able to get the bleeding under control for the most part, but the patient had to be sent into a medically induced coma because of it. Have Dr-"
My sentence was cut off by yelling, resulting in me looking up. Storming towards me was Melanie. Her face was red letting me know that she was furious. For what? I have no idea. Once she was close to me, I stared at her confused.
"You piece of shit!" She yelled at me and I furrowed my brows.
"Excuse me?" I responded, completely lost with her.
She scoffed then threw her arms up. "Don't stand here and act fucking dumb! You got me fired with your dumbass report!" She continued to shout, causing a few workers to look our way.
I slowly nodded my head, remembering now. After her neglect to a patient family member, I went ahead and reported her to the owner of the hospital, Cory Jones. He was a good friend of Calvin and has owned this hospital for at least sixteen years now. He was also a well respected man here and no one dared to play with him. He'll fire you with quickness, not wanting to hear an appeal or anything. Anyway, yeah, I reported Melanie after her being rude to that woman.
We were always told as medical professionals that it's our responsibility to make sure that anyone who enters this hospital, whether a patient or a family member, that we treat them as equals. We also had to push back our own political views and assist regardless. Melanie clearly thought those rules didn't apply to her.
When I had came back to work, she was busy talking about the woman like she wasn't human. Discussing the tragic death of her child as another way for black people to protest and loot. That's what really got me. And after hearing it, I went to Cory personally instead of writing a paper, and told him. He believed me right then and there, and now look at what happened. I had no regrets.
"Oh," was all I could respond with. I didn't feel bad and would honestly do it again. Not everyone deserved to be in this field, Melanie being one of them.
"Oh?" She questioned, tilting her head to the side. "That's all you have to say?"
I shrugged, "You did it to yourself, Melanie. If you would have done your job then you would still have it. That's not my problem." I told her. That may have been rude but I didn't care. It was the truth either way.
"Now, I have to get back to work. I'm sure you can see yourself out," I added.
I place my attention on Jessica who was standing beside me. We were talking before Melanie interrupted. I wanted to hurry and get this file documented before my patient family can see them.
Just as I turned my head, Melanie was standing close to me. All in my personal space. I didn't have time to say anything before her fist connected to my nose. That was the worst pain I ever experienced. I took a step back from her, Jessica stepping in front of me and holding her back. While I held my now bleeding nose, Officer Morris ran over and grabbed Melanie.
"You're a piece of shit, Kasey! You're a piece of shit!" She continued yelling at me while resisting Officer Morris arrest.
I ignored her yelling since it was a bunch of nonsense. Even if I didn't make a report against her, she was going to get fired over this anyway. There was always something happening at this damn hospital. Jessica turned to face me, her face filled with worry. A nosebleed wasn't that bad so I don't know why she seemed stressed. She was about to annoy me, I could feel it.
