Chapter 6

First dance

A day before our debut, Carlo called me even if we both have different schedule now.

He said he has something for me for my debut and who am I to ignore the invitation. And it's not dinner, it's a lunch out, I just don't know where.

Naghintay ako sa labas ng room, si Esme sumama muna sa iba naming classmate for lunch. Sabi kasi niya, ako na lang daw ang sumama kay Carlo. Kasi birthday ko at para naman sa'kin ang kung ano mang hinanda ni Carlo.

I never thought that he will remember my birthday even if he already shifted to a different course, we don't see each other often anymore, but he always made sure that I will still feel his presence.

And he is really true to his words, he's still with me on one of my birthdays too.

He arrived and he smiled when my eyes landed on him.

"Naghintay ka ba ng matagal? Sorry, natagalan" seryosong sabi niya at umiling ako.

If he can respect my time every time that he's the one waiting for me, I can also do that. Plus, hindi naman ako naghintay ng matagal.

"Nope, so saan tayo?"

I frowned when he started pulling me somewhere.

Saan naman kaya ako dadalhin nito? Nasa garden kami nung nakaraang birthday ko, ngayon saan?

Nagpahila lang ako sa kanya, safe naman e dahil siya ang humihila sa'kin.

Rooftop? I mentally asked while watching my steps while we are going upstairs.

"Wow" I gasped upon seeing what he prepared at the rooftop. It's a picnic set. There's food, blanket, pillow. Everything I can see in a picnic set is here. "You prepared all of this?"

"Yup" he answered and softly pulled me towards the picnic set he prepared. "I can't attend your grand celebration, so I made a memorable one"

"Kulang na lang ang label sa'ting dalawa" biro ko at natawa siya. "Pwede na kitang maging boyfriend sa effort mo" ako naman ang tumawa at ngumisi siya sa'kin.

"'Wag mo kong unahan" natatawang sabi niya at nagtaka ako ng nilabas niya ang cellphone niya. Tapos nagpatugtog ng birthday song.

I laughed when he gave his phone to me and he opened the basket to get a cake. And this time it's not just a cupcake, but it's a real cake, just smaller than the other cakes that I had.

"The improvement of your surprise cake" I commented after the song stopped. He laughed. And not like the last time, I didn't complain about everything anymore, even if I knew he spent his money with everything. I will just spend my money to my surprise or birthday gift for him too.

"Of course, the best girl, deserves a best cake. I baked this" my eyes widen when he stated that.

"What? You baked this?" he nodded. "But you told me you're not good in baking"

"I am not, I don't even know how this cake will taste. But I tried for your birthday" I pouted and watched him lit the small candle on the cake. "Another birthday that I got to spend with you, Ms. Asendido. Happy birthday" he genuinely greeted me.

"Thank you. Really" I pouted after making a wish and I looked at him. "I never expect any of this, because I am contented with just greetings from you and from the other people too. I am already okay that you remember my birthday, but for you to made this set-up..." I sighed and patted his head, even if he's taller than me. "I will give you something on your birthday too, you better watch out!"
