Chapter #30
Louri’s POV
I snuck down to the kitchen to get a red bull. I need caffeine. “Put the energy drink down Marine.” I hear Scarlett say from behind me before I have a chance to even open it. “Damn it. It’s just one please.” I ask. “Louri, don't make me tackle you.” She says pointing her finger at me. “Babe, is that really necessary?” I ask and she raises an eyebrow and I give in. “Fine.” I say putting it back in the fridge. “What do you want for breakfast?” I ask. “You’ll think it’s weird.” She says. “One of your cravings?” I ask, she then goes on to explain what she wants. “Darling, that's disgusting.” I say. “It’s your son that wants it.” She shrugs. “I don’t know if I can make that without throwing up.” I say. “You are a combat medic and that grosses you out?” She asks. “They don’t train you for your wife's insane pregnancy cravings.” I defend. “Fine, I'll make it myself.” She says shooing me from the kitchen. “I’m going to do my morning workout.” I tell her.
Scarlett’s POV
“Mommy what’s that?” Devon asks as he walks into the kitchen in his pajamas. “I don’t really know what to call it but you wouldn’t like it.” I tell him. “Ok.” He says with a shrug. “Oh god Scarlett what are you cooking?” Mom asks. “The baby wants it.” I say. “Can you make waffles?” Devon asks. “Yes Angel I can.” I smile at him and start to get what I need for waffles after finishing my food. “Good morning little Marine, Melanie.” Louri says as she walks into the kitchen. “Good workout?” I ask. “Very.” She nods before she walks around and wraps her arms around me from behind and rests her head on my shoulder. “Four more months.” Louri says as one of her hands rests on my stomach making me smile. “Babe I love you and I love when you hold me but you are very sweaty.” I say. “I’ll shower.” She chuckles. “Thank you.” I tell her. By the time I’m done making breakfast Louri and the twins have joined us in the dining room. “This was good Babe.” Louri says as she takes a sip of her coffee. “I do my best.” I say. “Has anyone told you you are adorable?” She says. “Yes. You every day.” I smile. “Well it’s true.” She says. “When do you go back to work, Louri?” Mom asks and I feel my stomach turn. “One and a half months but I’m not going overseas anytime soon.” She says placing her hand on mine under the table giving it a squeeze. “Glad to hear it. Why are you taking so much time off work? I know how much you love it.” Mom asks. “I got hurt. I’m technically on medical leave.” Louri says and my hand traces the bandage outline on her sweats unconsciously and she lets me. “I don’t like it when you get hurt.” Lisa says. “Neither do I Ma but it’s part of the job.” Louri says. “If you were injured why didn’t they send you home then?” Mom asks. “Because it wasn’t bad enough for her to be shipped home. I remember her doctor explaining it to me while I hear her in the background saying ‘That’s not how to do stitches you idiot.” I chuckle at the memory of Louri being stubborn. “You think your wife getting hurt is funny Scarlett!?” Lisa yells. “Mom, take the kids to the living room.” I say and Mom nods and takes them out of the room. “Ma that was uncalled for.” Louri says getting defensive over me. “She laughed at you getting hurt!!” Lisa yells. “She was laughing at my stubbornness, not the fact that I got hurt.” Louri says, trying not to raise her voice. “You being hurt isn’t funny not even if you’re being stubborn and if that bit..” “DON’T FINISH THAT SENTENCE!!” Louri’s voice booms. “I think it’s best if you go stay with Chris Ma. Get out of my house.” Louri says in a softer voice. “Are you kicking your own mother out?” Lisa asks, shocked. “Yes I am. Have Chris get your things. I want you out of this house now.” Louri says sternly. “I’m your mother! Are you putting her before your own mother?” Lisa tries to guilt trip Louri.  “In a heartbeat.” Is Louri’s response and Lisa storms out. “Are you ok?” Louri asks me with concern. “I could ask you the same thing.” I tell her. “I’m not thrilled with how my Ma treated you but I’m ok. Now please answer the question "are you ok?” Louri says. “I’m ok. I’ve got this really great Marine to defend me.” I smile at her playing with the tags hanging from her neck. “Always.” She says, wrapping her arms around me. “Are you two ok?” Mom asks. “Yeah thanks for taking the kids out of the room.” I say. “Of course though Louisa is crying she heard you yell Louri and she wants you.” Mom says. “Shit I didn’t mean to make her cry.” Louri says. “Go to her, she needs her Mama.” I tell her and she goes to Louisa. “Why did Louri yell at her mother? What was she going to say?” Mom asks. “She was gonna call me a bitch but Louri stopped her before she could even finish saying the word.” I tell Mom. “That is one protective Marine.” Mom smiles. “Yeah and I get to call her My Marine.” I say. “She’s yours forever.” Mom says. “Forever my Marine. I like the sound of that.” I smile. “How much did the kids hear?” I ask. “Only what Louri yelled. I put on Sing.” Mom says. “Seriously.” I groan. “What they love hearing their Mommy sing.” Mom shrugs. “Not in real life. They like the hedgehog with their Mommy’s voice.” I say with a laugh. “You are a published artist and they don’t like when you sing?” Mom asks, shocked. “They prefer Louri singing to them. Maybe it’s because she is gone for months at a time or maybe it’s just they like her more than me.” I say half joking. “That’s not true Mommy. I love when you sing that song about you wanting to be in that place I can’t remember the name.” Devon says walking in. “Are you talking about “I wish I was in New Orleans?” I ask him and he nods. “Yeah that one I just don’t like when you play music in the background.” He says. “You like it when it’s just my voice?” I ask. “Yeah you sing really pretty. You sing better than Elsa.” He says and that’s a big compliment from him considering how much he adores Elsa. “Wow you think I’m better than Elsa?” I ask. “Yes I do.” He says. “Sing and record it on your phone and it will prove me right.” He says. “Ok if you say so. Do you want me to sing ‘I wish I was In New Orleans’?” I ask. “Yes please.” He says. “Ok let me get my phone from the kitchen so I can record it.” I tell him and he nods.
