Chapter #55

Louri’s POV
It’s just after mid-night when I get to Walter Reed. “We made sure that Mrs. Colonel Evans-Johansson is comfortable Ma’am.” The nurse tells me I’m not surprised she got here before me. “Thank you.” I say as they wheel me into my room after I get done with all the scans and there are no internal injuries they just want to monitor me for a week because of my head and I see Scarlett asleep on the couch but she shoots up when she hears me. “Louri Baby.” She says getting up and rushing to the front of my wheelchair. “Hey I didn’t mean to wake you.” I tell her and she waves me off. “It’s ok. Let's get you into bed.” She says. “Wow straight to it huh?” I joke. “Louri!” She scolds going red as a tomato. I am able to stand up so I carefully lift myself up and before she can protest I just wrap my arms around her. “I missed you. I’m sorry this is the way I had to come home. I know you hate seeing me hurt.” I whisper in her ear she grips onto the hospital sweats I’m wearing and starts to cry. “I’ll be back when you are ready.” The nurse says. “Thank you.” I tell her as she leaves the room giving Scarlett and I some privacy. “I’m sorry.” She sobs. “Hey we talked about it, it’s ok.” I tell her. “No it’s not Louri I said horrible things. I told you not to come home. Look where we are, you got hurt.” She says through tears. “Come here, let's lay down.” I tell her and we lay on the hospital bed with Scarlett almost on top of me. “Do you remember what I said when I called you the night of the interview?” I ask and she nods. “I meant it. You can’t get rid of me that easily.” I tell her. “You said goodbye!” She cries hitting my chest referring to when I said ‘I love you’ before the explosion. “Calm down please honey.” I tell her. “You scared me.” She cries. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to make sure that if those were my last words to you that you knew I love you.” I tell her which just makes her bury her face in my neck and cry harder. “I love you too.” She says between cries. “Don’t let go.” She says when I go to grab the blanket. “I’m just grabbing the blanket Honey. Then I will hold you for however long you want me to.” I say pulling up the blanket to cover us then quickly wrap my arm back around her. “I am truly sorry for what I said the morning you were deployed.” She apologizes for the millionth time since the interview. “Honey I told you I forgive you. Please stop apologizing.” I say. “I meant it when I said without you our house isn’t a home. In the song.” Scarlett says. “It’s not a home without you either.” I tell her. “Oh shit the kids! How did they react? Are they ok? Do I need to call them?” I panic and she places her hand on my cheek to calm me. “They don’t know I lied to them, they think I’m in New York and you are still overseas. I didn't want to scare them.” She says. “Oh. Normally I wouldn’t be ok with lying to them but you had good reason.” I say. “I just wanted to make sure you were ok before letting them know.” She says. “That’s smart. That’s a good idea.” I nod. “I get those sometimes. Ooo give me your hand. Do you feel that?” She asks as she places my hand on her stomach and I feel Thomas kicking. “He’s gotten stronger.” I smile. “Yeah and wreaks havoc on my bladder.” She chuckles. “Colonel, I have to hook you up to the monitors.” The nurse says coming back into the room. “Don’t worry you don’t have to move Ma’am.” She smiles at Scarlett. “Thank you.” Scarlett tells her. “I’ve dealt with a lot of wives and husbands in my day. Please lower your collar Colonel.” She says and I do and she places the different wires on my chest. “There are some nurses here to visit you, which is a new one for me. A nurse Maya and a nurse Louisa.” She says and my jaw drops. “Holy shit.” Scarlett says. “Yeah, let them in.” I say and a few minutes later they walk in. “You’ve been promoted since we saw you last.” Maya says. “Yeah and named our daughters after you two.” Scarlett says. “Ha I told you they named them after us, pay up bitch.” Louisa says. “Ugh fine here’s your forty bucks.” Maya rolls her eyes. “Well we are actually on duty but we wanted to say hi and next time we see you it better not be here.” Maya says. “That’s very kind and I really hope we won’t.” I say before they leave. “They made a bet on if we named our daughters after them.” Scarlett bursts out laughing which I much rather see her do than see her cry. “We are going to have to introduce the twins to them at some point.” I say. “Agreed they should know who they are named after.” Scarlett says. “I wish Devon and Thomas could have that.” I say with my thumb rubbing back and forth on Scarlett’s stomach. “I know you do baby I know. I wish they could too.” She says before placing a kiss on my cheek. “Hey, why can’t I have a real kiss?” I whine. “Fine, come here.” She says placing her hand on my cheek and turning my head a little and places a soft kiss on my lips. “Better?” She asks when we pull apart. “Yes.” I smile at her. “Oh we have to call your mother.” Scarlett says reaching for her purse that’s on the table next to the bed. “Do we have to?” I whine. “Yes we do. She’s your mother and worried. She knows what happened. I didn't lie to her.” Scarlett says. “Ok fine, call Ma.” I say and she does. Ma mostly cries happy to know I’m ok. And tells us she will bring the kids out tomorrow.A/N
