Chapter #28 Scarlett’s POV “Louri please calm down. This is my third pregnancy. We've done this before.” I say to the pacing Marine as I sit in the exam chair. “I know I know. I’m just nervous. You know I want them to be healthy and I know you haven’t had any problems before and I know that at your last appointment everything was fine. I just can’t help thinking "what if you know.” She rambles. “I know you are. Come here, sit with me.” I say patting the pot next to me that’s just big enough for her to sit. The second I hold her hand she relaxes. “Ok Scarlett, are we going to record this visit for Louri too?” Dr. Montgmery says, not looking up from her file. “Oh no need.” Louri says. “Oh Louri welcome home.” Dr. Montgomery says. “Thanks I came home on Devon’s birthday and surprised him.” She says and I smile. “He wasn’t the only one surprised.” I say and I go on to tell Dr. Montgomery how Louri called with her sat phone as if she was still in Iraq and how she told Devon there was a package for him and to go look outside. “That is so sweet. Are we ready to find out if it’s a boy or girl?” She asks. “Yes very.” I nod. Louri’s POV Dr. Montgomery starts to do the ultrasound and being a medic and done these kinds of ultrasounds for the people in the villages I know exactly the gender. “IT’S A BOY!” I scream. “And the medic is showing.” Scarlett jokes. “But is it really?” She asks. “Yeah, look, that's not an umbilical cord Baby.” I say pointing to the ultrasound. “Thomas.” She says. “Yeah that’s our little Thomas.” I smile. “Oh Devon is going to be thrilled.” Scarlett says. “Yeah he is.” I say. We get home and Devon is on the front porch waiting for us. “So am I getting a brother?” He asks. “Let’s go inside and we can tell everyone if you are or not.” Scarlett says. “Ok fine.” He says. I have the ultrasound printout firmly in my hand. “So?” Ma asks. “Everyone, this here is.” I say pointing to the printout. “Is Thomas.” Scarlett smiles. “YAY A BROTHER!! I KNEW YOU COULD MAKE SURE IT WAS A BOY!!” Devon cheers running around the living room. “Where are the girls?” I ask. “Oh they are taking a nap.” Melanie says. “Oh ok. Well if they are going to nap I could use one too.” I say and head upstairs and plop down on the bed. “KOALA!!” Scarlett yells jumping on me. “Oof Scarlett did you have to do that?” I ask. “Yes.” She says with a chuckle. I love your clinginess.” I say wrapping my arms around her. “I’m gonna text the chat.” I tell her and take a picture of her cuddled into me before texting the chat.
