Chapter #75

Scarlett’s POV
I wake up to the sound of the taping of a keyboard and humming. She is doing work? But then she starts singing out loud she has earbuds in I don’t think she knows she singing out loud so I just let her sing because I love her voice and Nickelback. “How the hell'd we wind up like this? And why weren't we able, To see the signs that we missed? Try and turn the tables, I wish you'd unclench your fists, And unpack your suitcase, Lately there's been too much of this, But don't think it's too late,
Nothing's wrong just as long as you know that someday I will, Someday, somehow, I'm gonna make it alright but not right now, I know you're wondering when, (You're the only one who knows that), Someday, somehow, I'm gonna make it alright but not right now, I know you're wondering when, Well, I'd hope that since we're here anyway, We could end up saying, Things we've always needed to say, So we could end up staying, Now the story's played out like this, Just like a paperback novel, Let's rewrite an ending that fits, Instead of a Hollywood horror, Nothing's wrong just as long as you know that someday I will, Someday, somehow, I'm gonna make it alright but not right now, I know you're wondering when, (You're the only one who knows that), Someday, somehow,

I’m journaling. It’s faster to just type what I’m thinking than writing it down.” She says turning the laptop, showing an open google doc titled ‘Journal’. “I’m sorry I woke up to the sound of you typing and I thought you were working.” I tell her. “That makes sense. I do use this laptop for work too. It’s not my secure laptop that is locked in the safe in the office downstairs.” She says. “Why are you journaling at two in the morning?” I ask. “Well I had a nightmare and my therapist told me that I should do what is called a nightmare protocol. It’s where you write what happened in the dream then rewrite it with a different or better ending. It’s actually been helping.” She tells me. “I’m sorry you had a nightmare. I normally wake up when you have them.” I say. “It wasn’t as bad as the ones I normally get. But it wasn’t pleasant either.” She says and I can see the pain in her eyes. “Would talking about it help?” I ask since it normally does. “No, not this one.” She says and I nod my head in understanding. “How about I give you cuddles?” I say and she smiles. “I will never say no to that.” She says shutting the laptop and putting it on her nightstand. “Mmmmh.” She hums in content as she settles into my arms. “You have an amazing voice. If you ever left the marines you could possibly be a singer.” I tell her. “Oh no not me. I don’t like being on stage. My singing is only for you guys. Do you want me to leave the marines?” She asks. “No, I was just saying you have a great voice.” I tell her and she blushes. “Thank you.” She says before we hear a faint knock on the door. “I’ll get it.” She says and gets up and opens the door revealing Devon. “Hey little Marine. Is something wrong?” Louri asks as she scoops him up. “Very wrong.” He says and I get out of bed and go to Louri and Devon. “What is it Angel?” I ask. “I need snacks.” He says oh lord have mercy. “That is your child.” I say to Louri and she nods as she sighs in relief. “Devon, you scared me. I thought something was wrong.” She tells him. “Something is wrong. I need snacks.” He says. “Devon it’s two twenty in the morning.” I say. “But snacks.” He says. “Devon my sweet little Marine, that isn’t an emergency.” Louri says. “Yes, my tummy needs snackies.” He says. “Ok. Let's go get a snack.” I say and Louri nods and the three of us go to the kitchen and I grab some yogurt and granola from the fridge and mix up a small snack. “You know that actually looks pretty good, can I have some?” Louri asks. “Sure I think I’ll have some too.” I say and mix up two more bowls after I hand Devon his. “Thank you Mommy.” He says. “You’re very welcome Angel.” I smile back at him. The three of us eat in silence which is soon broken by Devon. “Thank you for the snack, the emergency is over. I’m going back to bed.” He says jumping off the bar stool and goes upstairs to his room. “I really thought something was wrong.” I sigh and Louri rubs my back. “I did too. He was very serious about needing a snack.” She says. “He is such an Evans.” I chuckle. “Yes he is.” She laughs with me before pulling me into her side. “Thank you for the food.” She says. “It’s no problem.” I say before we hear Thomas start to cry. “That’s our cue.” Louri says and we get up I put the bowls in the sink making a mental note to take care of them later.
