Scarlett’s POV
I wake up to Louri on the phone with someone and she is clearly unhappy. “But Sir, I already missed the first four months of Scarlett’s pregnancy.” She says. Fuck! She's being deployed. “Yes Sir. I will see you this afternoon.” She says with a sigh. “THIS AFTERNOON!!” I yell, making her jump slightly surprised I’m awake. “Baby.” She says but I cut her off. “Don’t ‘Baby’ me! You are leaving in less than twelve hours!!” I shout. “I don’t have a choice.” She says. “YES YOU DO!! YOU STAY!!” I scream. “If I stay then they would consider it desertion.” She says. “YOU AREN’T GOING!” I yell. “I HAVE TOO IT’S MY JOB!” She  yells back grabbing her bag to pack. “FUCK YOUR JOB!!” I scream, surprising us both. I don't mean that. “Wow! I do nothing but support you! And when I need you! You say ‘fuck your job!’ really! Tell the kids I wished I could say goodbye but I didn’t have time.” She says taking her bag. “I thought you till have till this afternoon.” I say. “It’s stressful enough going overseas I don’t need the stress of my wife telling me TO FUCK MY JOB!!” She yells marching down the stairs. “Louri please I’m sorry I didn’t mean it please.” I beg as she goes to her office. “Don’t Scarlett. Just don’t.” She says pulling out a notepad and pen. “Don’t you fucking write that letter!” I yell. “I haven’t written one for Thomas.” She says. “Give me that!” I say taking the notepad yes I’m being childish but I don’t want her to go. “What so Devon, you, and the girls each get one but he doesn’t?” She asks. “No! BECAUSE YOU AREN’T GOING!!!” I scream. “Don’t yell, you'll wake the kids.” Lisa’s voice comes from the office doorway. “Lisa, please tell her she has to stay.” I beg. “Don’t involve my mother in this. I’ll write the letter when I get to the base. I have to go. Tell the kids I love them.” She says  as she gets up and starts to leave. “I swear to god Louri don’t walk out that door!!” I yell. “I’m sorry.” She says as we all go outside. “Louri don’t!” I yell when she gets to her truck and opens the door, throwing her bag into the passenger seat. “I have too.” She says. “FINE DON’T EXPECT A WARM WELCOME WHEN YOU GET HOME!! IN FACT DON'T COME HOME!!! BECAUSE I’M DONE!!!” I scream what am I saying? I see Louri’s heartbreak in her eyes. “I love you.” Is all she says before she gets in her truck and drives off. “Oh god Lisa what have I done?” I break down and Lisa just holds  me. “Why are you being nice to me? Didn’t you hear what I said? Did you not see the look on her face?” I cry into her shoulder. “I know you didn’t mean it. I know you are scared. I’m her mother. Do you think I’m happy about this? Because I’m not. Come back inside, you need rest.” She says. “I should go after her because I love her.” I say crying. “I don’t want you driving in this condition, it's not safe.” Lisa says. “Mama’s not coming back?” Devon asks, crying at the bottom of the staircase fuck. “She’ll come home she always does.” I tell him. “But you told her not to.” He says. “Your Mommy didn’t mean that. Your Mama knows that. She’ll come home.” Lisa says

Louri’s POV
“You have to call home.” Corporal Klinger says. “I have. I’ve talked with the kids.” I tell him. “You purposely call when you know she won’t be home.” Staff Sergeant O’Reily says. “Look, Scarlett made it very clear she doesn’t want me to come home.” I say as I tune my guitar. “She’s chalked full of hormones and probably scared. Talk to her. It’s  been a fucking month.” Greg says he’s only here at the base and he can't go into the field. “She said she’s done. I can’t reason with her now, go away, all of you.” I say and continue to tune my guitar so I can play Nickelback’s ‘Far Away’ ; it just feels like the right song for right now.
