Chapter 80
Louri’s POV
While the kids are playing with their Aunts and Chris, I go outside to check the wings and bacon in the smoker. They are coming along very well, and should be done shortly. I walk back inside and notify Scarlett and Ma that food is almost ready. “We are almost ready as well,” Scarlett says. “We made Mac n cheese, cornbread, sweet corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, seasoned fries, peach cobbler and mixed berry pie,” Ma tells me. “Wow, my mouth is watering already,” I say, making them laugh.

Half an hour passes and more people have arrived. Lizzie and Robbie, RDJ and his wife Susan and their two kids, Hemsworth and his wife Elsa and their kids, Tom and Zendaya and Florence. They have all marveled at the kitchen renovation and when they saw Thomas they all lost it. “Oh my goodness, look how adorably cute he is!” Florence says while picking him up and holding him. “How do you guys always make beautiful children?” She asks. “Have you seen my wife?” I say, pointing up and down at Scarlett making her laugh and blush. “Look at yourself baby,” she replies, making me blush as well. Luckily the doorbell rings and I am quick to go answer it. Papa Sherman and Mildred standing there smiling. “Hey! So glad you both could make it. Devon has been non stop talking about you both coming,” I say to them as I let them in. “Little marine come see who came,” I say. Devon comes running in, “Papa Sherman! Grandma Mildred!” He greets them excitedly. They both give him a hug each and Mildred kisses the top of his head. “My have you grown so much,” she says. “Come to the living room, Maya and Louisa are playing with Auntie Shanna and Auntie Bri and uncle Chris,” he tells them, grabbing both their hands and walking to the living room. I smile and close the door and head into the kitchen. I pull the brisket and pork out of the warmer oven and start shredding the pork. Once that’s done I grab tongs placing them in each tray, I pull out bbq sauces and buns placing them by the trays as well. “Ok everyone, the food is all set, please come into the kitchen and help yourselves,” I say. Everyone piles into the kitchen to make a plate for themselves.

Scarlett’s POV
I am so happy everybody could come over and spend time with us and meet Thomas. Florence, Zendaya and Lizzie are sitting by Thomas cooing over how cute he is. He definitely is an adorable baby, I might be biased though. Who am I kidding, he is the cutest. All of our kids are. I’m sitting at the table next to Louri and Susan and I take a bite from one of the wings, “oh my gosh baby these wings are amazing,” I say to her. “Thank you, I tried this new rub recipe and was hoping it would turn out good.” She tells me. “They’re very good, I don’t even know if I want other people to try,” I say, making her and Susan laugh. “Don’t worry babe, I can make them anytime for you,” she says, giving me a kiss on the cheek. “Louri you made billionaire bacon!?” RDJ exclaims. “Yes I did, I know how much you and my brother like it,” Louri says. Both RDJ and Evans do a little happy dance, making us all laugh. “They’re like adult children,” Susan says. “That they are,” I say, giggling. I hear Thomas crying, I turn and see him fussing in Lizzie’s arms. “I think it’s time for me to feed and change him,” I say, getting up. Louri gets up as well but I tell her to sit back down. She has been working her butt off all day, she needs to relax. I pick up Thomas from Lizzie and head upstairs to feed and change him.

Sherman’s POV
As we sit and eat with everyone, my wife gives me a slight nudge. “When are you going to tell her?” She asks me. I don’t know Mil, I don’t want to ruin their evening,” I say to her. “She would want to know,” she tells me. I nod and give her a kiss on the cheek. I excuse myself and head over to Louri. “Louri, do you mind if we talk for a moment?” I ask her. She nods and excuses herself. We head out onto the back deck and I close the sliding door behind me. “Everything ok?” She asks. I take a deep breath. “I need to have surgery.” I say. Her eyes go wide, “what kind of surgery? Are you alright?” She asks quickly. I place my hands on her shoulders. “It is hip replacement surgery, but please do not worry, I have the best surgeon the Marines have to offer and recovery won’t be long. I just wanted to let you know because I will be away when you return after your leave,” I tell her. She looks at me teary eyed, “you promise you have the best surgeon?” She asks me. “Yes, top surgeon, the best for the best,” I say, making her chuckle. She gives me a hug and holds me tight. “When is the surgery?” She asks. “In 3 weeks, I will give you all the information if it will keep your mind at ease,” I tell her, making her nod into my shoulder. She gives me one more squeeze and pulls back. “Thank you for letting me know,” she says to me. “Of course, Mildred kept reminding me to tell you so I figured since we would be together tonight, I would let you know.” I tell her. “I’m glad that you have the best surgeon, although I’m not happy you won’t be there when I return to work, but I guess I can check in with you and Mildred often to make sure you’re ok,” she says. “Yes you can, wouldn’t have it any other way,” I say, giving her another hug. “Let’s head back inside and enjoy the rest of the evening,” I say, putting my arm around her shoulder and head inside.
