The next morning Percy made sure Mrs. O'Leary had enough dog biscuits and asked Beckendorf to keep an eye on her, which he didn't seem too happy about. Then hiked over Half-Blood Hill and met Anastasia, Annabeth and Argus on the road.
Annabeth and him didn't talk much in the van. Argus never spoke, probably because he had eyes all over his body, including—so he's heard—at the tip of his tongue, and he didn't like to show that off.
Him and Anastasia didn't talk either, much to his disappointment. After her breakdown, she muttered something to him before running off to her cabin. He knew she was dealing with Savannah coming back, and their argument. He felt selfish for wanting to ask her about the kiss that happened before Micheal came in. There were more important things going on but...he needed to know if it meant anything to her. She didn't push him away, so it had to mean something...right?
But that's not the biggest issue at the moment.
It felt like their first ever quest. Anastasia ignoring him in the front, Annabeth already annoyed of him in the backseat with him. All they needed was Grover, sitting in the back anxious with him.
Gods, he hopes Grover and Tyson were okay.
Annabeth looked queasy, as if she'd slept even worse than himself. "Bad dreams?" he finally asked.
She shook her head. "An Iris-message from Eurytion."
"Eurytion? Is something wrong with Nico?"
"He left the ranch last night, heading back into the maze."
"Nico was gone before he woke up. Orthus tracked his scent as far as the cattle guard. Eurytion said he'd been hearing Nico talk to himself the last few nights. Only now he thinks Nico was talking with the ghost again, Minos."
"He's in danger," Percy said.
"No kidding. Minos is one of the judges of the dead, but he's got a vicious streak a mile wide. I don't know what he wants with Nico, but—"
