"We'll take it from here!" Jake reassured Thane as he sent out Searknight as Lucy and Lucas' Loomians started the fight against the swarm of guards that had just appeared to stop them. "You guys just go stop Vanta!" Jake ordered. Ferrix grabbed Thane by the shoulder. "He's right! They can handle this!" Thane hesitated for a split second, hating that he had to leave his friends to fight alone, but then again, he had no choice. "Right!" He agreed after a moment and he and Ferrix turned to pursue Vanta, only for Lucas to stop them.
"Thane!" The boy turned in time to see a small silver crystal flying through the air. Thane's hand instinctively went up to catch it, and for a moment, he stood there confused. "It's one of the crystals Lucy and Mabel found! Escagrow might need it!" Realization hit Thane suddenly and he nodded gratefully. "Thanks!" He cried out over his shoulder as he and Ferrix took off racing down the tunnel.
After a few minutes of racing through a tunnel illuminated by beautiful blue Soul Crystals, the pair reached the opening of a large cavern. Thane looked around, trying to make sense of everything. Water, a large pool to the left. Crystals crawled along the ceiling of the cave and dropped down onto the crown jewel of the Lost City. Near the center of the massive cave, it rested. The Soul Heart shone brightly, almost blindingly so. It was so bright that Thane realized it could be a hindrance.
"Look!" Ferrix whispered as he pointed to the Soul Heart. Standing in front of the crystal, was Dr. Vanta and Daniel, his head scientist. Thane and Ferrix listened in closely to the two men.
"I can't believe it!" Vanta spoke in reverence. "It's finally mine. A perfect future can finally be achieved!" He looked down for a moment in sadness, "If only my grandfather could see it." Daniel looked frantically between his tablet and the Soul Heart, eyes wide and a large smile plastered across his face. "Sir, these readings, they're nothing like we've ever seen before! They're off the charts!" His voice cracked as he spoke. "I can't even begin to make sense of them!" Vanta laughed gleefully. "Daniel, this is our new beginning. This crystal is said to be the source of all life on Earth, and now it's mine." He declared softly as he began to reach out for the Soul Heart.
"Stop Vanta!" Vanta's eye widened in rage as he and Daniel whirled around to face a rapidly approaching Ferrix, Thane, and Embit. Vanta growled. "You made it past the guards, and just when I needed them most..." He lost his focus but quickly found it again. "How annoying." Ferrix reached a hand out. "Vanta, can be please just talk about this before you do anything even more drastic?" Ferrix pleaded, only for Vanta to scoff. "What is there to talk about?" He pointed at the Soul Crystal. "That is the next step for humanity, and it's waiting right there in front of our eyes." He glared at Thane, "Well, for most of us anyway."
Ferrix tried pleading with the man again. "Vanta, please. You have no idea the consequences of messing with the Soul Heart, no one does! What do you think happened to the people of this ancient civilization?" Vanta shrugged. "Who knows? But the stories of the Soul Heart tell of its ability to create, not destroy. Whatever happened to this city, it wasn't because of the Soul Heart." He replied. Ferrix looked frantic. "Still, power like the Soul Heart can't be wielded by one single person with such reckless ambition!" Vanta shrugged again. "My ambition is what pushed me towards some of my greatest accomplishments, and the many technological advancements in Roria." He pointed to himself. "I promised my father I wouldn't give up on my ambitions, like he did. And I am a man who keeps his word."
He pointed a finger at the pair. "It's clear that you won't leave without a fight, so I'll give you one! Let's see whose resolve and ambition is stronger!" He challenged as he threw a Capture Disc into the air and Stratusoar exploded out in a flash of blue light. It landed in front of Vanta with a mechanical cry, ready to fight.
