"Are we really the first ones here?" Thane asked as he and Lucy took a seat on a bench in front of the museum. Lucy looked around and nodded. "Yeah." She declared finally. "How?" Thane asked while throwing his hands up. "We were in the Living District. Mabel and Jake should have gotten here before us!" Lucy laughed a little. "Mabel's probably slowing them down. Jake would have probably beaten us here if it wasn't for her." Thane thought about that for a moment. "Yeah, you're right."
Lucy playfully elbowed Thane in the ribs. "Want to make a bet to see who's going to get here first? I bet on Jake and Mabel." Thane cocked his head to the side. Through Via's earbud, the sound of the busy was filtered out to let the conversation between Jake and Mabel into his left ear. They were just around the corner. "I don't want to take that bet." He nodded to the direction Jake and Mabel were coming from. "They're around the corner." A few seconds later, the pair and Starla emerged from around the building.
Thane chuckled as he elbowed Lucy back. The girl just stared at her friends in shock. "How?" She finally stammered out. "Don't worry about it." He waved at the silver forms of his friends. "Mabel, Jake! How was the haircut?" Thane greeted them as they approached. Jake shrugged. "I haven't gotten my hair cut in a long time, so it felt nice." Lucy nodded. "Looks good." Mabel looked around, still holding Starla in her arms. "Where's Lucas?" Thane shrugged. "We texted him, he still hasn't shown up yet."
After a full ten minutes, Lucas finally emerged from around the corner. Mabel threw her hands up in exasperation. "Finally! What took so long?" She demanded and Lucas stammered for an explanation. Jake put a gentle hand on her shoulder, causing her to flush. "Don't worry about it, Lucas. We're all here now and that's all that matters. Come on."
The group stood up from the bench with Thane leading the pack, Embit in his usual spot on his shoulder. Thane removed the Via earbud from his ear, and the stream of useful information was cut off, reducing his worldview to a monotonous silver, black, and white.
"We've been cleared to enter without tickets. Someone is coming to the entrance to take us." Thane explained as the group entered the museum. He immediately regretted taking out the earbud and slipped it back in. While his friends and partner Loomian looked around, Thane stared straight ahead as Via analyzed the room for him. Thane knew how sad that sounded.
"Are we just supposed to wait here?" Lucas said as he looked around at the many exhibits beyond the front desk. Before anyone else could answer, the voice of a woman rang out, getting closer as a pair of adults approached. "Thane!" Thane's head immediately snapped towards the sound of the voice. He remembered the voice, he talked to it regularly, but hearing it in person after so long caught him off guard. But his surprise was only momentarily, and he soon rushed over to the two silver forms as they passed the front desk and into the lobby. He was vaguely aware of Embit running beside him.
"Mom! Dad!" Thane cried in surprise elation as he met his parents in a tight hug, one which Embit quickly joined in. Thane had really missed this. It was like a shield or a safety net, one that was impenetrable and would always be there to keep him safe. Meanwhile, Thane's friends stood back awkwardly. After a few minutes of comfortable silence, Thane forced himself to pull away. He looked over his shoulder. "Guys, get over here!" His friends quickly shuffled over obediently.
Once everyone was gathered together, Thane began to speak rapidly, not letting anyone else a chance. "It's been so long since I've seen you guys! Why didn't you tell me you were coming down here? How's Derrick? Are the stones safe? Do you guys want to see my Loomians? What about the medals I won so far?" The rapid volley of questions caught his parents off guard, but they were spared any further ones when Jake placed a gentle hand on Thane's shoulder. Thane cleared his throat awkwardly. "Sorry. But, seriously, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you guys be in Mitis Town?"
