*Alora POV*
"Ominis......" Anne said quietly, grabbing his hand.
He flinched away, the sadness in her eyes becoming imminent. Something was wrong and I watched as the shadows of fears flew across his face. His teeth baring together, the way his body tensed up. Whatever happened while he was away must have done a number on him...... but this wasn't like him. Not at all.
"I don't-... I don't want to talk about it." He huffed.
Garreth rolled his eyes, clearly irritated that Ominis had every right to judge him when he too wasn't as much better than the rest. We had all done things in our past that we regret but.... regardless, that didn't matter. Sebastian was the reason and the only reason we were doing this. Otherwise.... we'd all be perfect angels. But were not........ were the devils servants and it was eating at each and every one of us. Bit by bit.
"Nobody is judging you here Ominis........." I said exhausted.
"Sure as hell doesn't look that way!" He shouted, his hands in fist, his eyes filled with determination to prove him wrong.
I sighed heavily, my eyes traveling to Garreth as he just smirked. Loving the fact he was getting Ominis all riled up.
"Your just pissed because you for ONCE.... screwed up, didn't you..... Gaunt."
That did it.
Ominis for a moment pinched his eyes shut, before opening them with a fierceness I had never seen before, charging at Garreth, about knocking the table away.
I jumped up quickly before everything flew off the table as me and Anne jumped out of the way.
"THATS ENOUGH!" I yelled, grabbing onto Ominis arm. "Garreth! I have about half a mind to wipe your damn memory, so you better shut your mouth!"
Garreth boyish smile immediately vanished at the scolding.
I was done screwing around.
Ominis whipped his arm out of my hold, walking quickly to the door as the rain had now become only misty droplets.
"Ominis wait!" Anne yelled.
But it was too late, Ominis slammed the door behind him. Causing the small house to shake.
I groaned in frustration, "Anne can you-"
"Yes, I'll go." She said quickly, jumping to grab her coat before running outside to rush after him so he wouldn't get far.
"Merlin you are all on edge, nobody can take a joke anymore?" Garreth asked sarcastically.
I wanted to pound his face into the ground. Feeling the ancient magic flow through my fingertips, my chest feeling heavy as the acid from the tea come up my throat. I tried taking a deep breath, slumping back into my chair, leaning against the table and trying to get my damn breathing under control.
After a while, I heard Garreth shift uncomfortably in his chair. Taking another sip of his tea which had probably gone cold by now.
"I'm going to take that as a no, then." He said under his breath.
I chuckled, wanting to rip his head off in the process.
"You're asking for it Garreth..." I said through my teeth.
"What the hell did I do?!" He said defensively.
I groaned, "It's more like, what didn't you do or say.... to be perfectly honest."
"Since when did Ominis get so touchy. He used to be able to take a damn joke-"
"Have you not been listening? Or has your mind all a sudden went completely jello as to what we have been dealing with? Do I need to remind you that Sebastian is gone?!"
"Alora I know that-"
"Then I shouldn't have to remind you how detrimental all of this is to US! Use your damn feelings Garreth, or so help me I will literally make sure Poppy dumps your red head ass!"
His hands went up in surrender.
"Okay, OKAY! Jeez! I'm sorry."
I shook my head in disbelief. Trying to wrap my mind around everything while my eyes fell upon the time turner.
"Can you now please tell me what the hell I can do with this, or how to use it?" I asked, motioning to it.
Garreth sighed, leaning onto the table again as he readjusted himself.
"Yes..... you see how on the sides it has the tiny dials? These will flip and turn the insides of the circles around the hourglass. Each time you twist, its turns you back an hour. If you twist it the opposite direction, it will move you forward. BUT, you can only move it forward if you are in the past."
He grabbed it from the middle of the table, showing me exactly how to turn it.
"Once you make your dials, it will automatically start the process of turning back time. Usually only takes a second or two till you are the right moment but.... Alora. There are limitations to this."
I eyed him cautiously, waiting for him to continue.
"You shouldn't be seen or do anything to alter the future. And, the most important rule is, you cannot run into your former self. My father said wizards have gone mad.......... losing their bloody minds."
"What is the point if you can't go back and alter the future? I mean isn't that the whole point of this?" I asked.
Garreth sighed, "I thought the same thing, but apparently they were only using this as a spy technique inside the Ministry. Supposedly, altering the future can make an even worse outcome and be very unpredictable. Plus, if they found out we took this and we got caught, it would be a one-way ticket to Azkaban. So please..... be careful." He said, handing it to me.
I nodded to him, taking in his advice.
He got up, chugging the last of his tea. Wiping his face from the access that slightly dripped along the sides of his mouth, sighing in content from his thirst being satisfied.
"Your leaving?" I asked. Watching him gather his coat and slipping it on.
"Yeah.... send me an owl on how it goes. I really do hope for both of your sakes it works out. But I mean it Alora, don't do anything stupid with this. I'm trusting you."
I sighed, looking back down at it. "Thanks Garreth, I will be sure to give you an update."
I heard his footsteps reach for the door, his hand on the handle before I heard him stop.
"What will you do?" I heard him ask.
I turned around, facing him in the chair.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean...... even if you do find the person who told these allegations against him. What's your plan? Are you just going to find that person and make sure they tell the Ministry they just made it up?"
I sighed, looking back down at the time turner.
"I don't know......... but I'll tell you this." I said softly, my eyes reaching towards him again. "This person..... will wish... they never crossed me."
