*Alora POV*
"You know you don't have to. You know that don't you?"
The light chatter, the sound of the clinking of the glassware as Ominis twirled me around the ballroom.
The dark green flags of the Gaunts legacy hung from the ceilings, bright green and white flames from the chandeliers. If anyone could guess, it was mostly decorated in the houses color. Black, dark green, like the forest green. The type of green where when you walked into the darkness, it gave off an eerie glow in the distance. A cold malice chilling feeling, even with Ominis so close to me, holding me against him as we danced...... it still felt cold.
I looked up into his white orbs, his elegant face never once looking away as the clinking of the glasses got louder.
I sighed, watching him carefully as the melody of the harmonic sound was coming to its unfortunate end.
"I know, but it's what we have to....." I said lowly, my eyes immediately falling on his lips.
My heart felt the strain of the pressure. The unknowns of what this would do, what they would do..... not only to me.... but-... to him.
In the sea of people watching, my eyes gazed upon them. My eyes immediately falling upon Marvolo. His hand holding a glass of champagne, hitting the glass with the fork so forcefully I thought it would break.
".....Alora." Ominis said quietly, his lips coming to the side of my forehead.
I leaned into him, feeling his grip tighten on me.
The sea of people turned into wave after wave, green after green, blur after blur. The world stopped, my heart stopping, a wave of heat flashing over me as if I was lit on fire. I blinked profusely, not able to look away.
Ominis turned looking off into the direction in which I had stilled.
"....Alora?" He asked softly.
.......No.......... no... not again.
It was him. Again. Watching me, his daring eyes growing colder as he watched Ominis grip on me tighten around my waist.
.... I know it's not you..... I know it's not you......
Ominis grabbed my chin with his index finger, feeling the unsteady rhythm of my heart, my staggering breath growing out of control.
I closed my eyes, turning towards him only for a second.
....No.... I won't let him win.
Not this time.
"Alora-"
Clink.
I reached up, closing the gap in between the two of us.
Surrendering my heart to him. Surrendering myself.
Ominis lips held me. His soft hands coming to my face to hold me in place, caressing my cheeks as his warm lips danced against mine. Feeling the heavy breath, the warmth in which spread of my cheeks.
Cheers spread through the ball room, our kiss spreading joy throughout the hall.
Our breaths coming out together in small pants, one after another, foreheads leaning against each other as we tried catching our breaths.
Ominis eyes glistened when I pulled back to catch his eyes.
"..... you didn't have to..." He whispered. Only loud enough for the two of us to hear.
I breathed.
"I know."

The night continued on, occasionally getting asked to dance by the other members by the council. The weary eyes still following me around the room.
