*Anne POV* - New POV Yayyy!!
It was never easy.
It never has been.
These last few years of our lives have been nothing but constantly looking over my shoulder. Waiting for Sebastian to come home. Reuniting our family. And now that I have him. Now that's he's home, he seems far more distant than ever before.
Looking at him now, the long lost look, his eyes feasting on the fire. Looking, wishing, for something. I could only imagine.
It was her.
While I-...... lost..... him.
I sighed, grabbing another cup of tea with me while I sat next to him. He barely noticed my presence as he leaned against his knees. His fingers crossed over each other. Still lost in the flames.
I elbowed him softly, causing him to look up and notice the cup of tea in my hand. Wishing to give him.
That boyish smile he had when he smiled grabbed the cup. Holding it while looking down at the steam.
"We don't have much time." I said, taking a slow sip of the tea. The burning heat scorching my mouth.
He huffed, "Yeah, I know. I'll start packing our things here shortly."
"You know thats not what I meant."
His body stilled, his eyes meeting mine even if it was just for a second. Barely a glint of hope shining in them before it was replaced with the flames in his reflection.
His nostrils flared, turning back over to the flames. Shoulders hunching forward. Defeated all over again as I saw the turmoil in his eyes.
"She's made her choice."
I wanted to laugh.
He can't be serious.
"Has she? Has she really Sebastian?" I paused, reaching out to him, putting a hand on the back of his shoulder. "Do I need to remind you who she's doing this for?"
Sebastian stood abruptly, his liquid in his cup almost tipping over for the fast intrusion. Groaning, his hand leaning against the mantle. Getting closer to the fire than ever.
"Tell me, my oh, so stubborn brother..." I said, catching his attention. "What made you come out of your dark state, huh? What was it she did to make you want her again?"
He pinched his eyes shut, seeing the tenseness in his jaw. Afraid his teeth would shatter if he bit down hard enough.
He was quiet, still not answering me.
"Is it because Ominis has his hold on her-"
"No." He growled out.
Bingo.
He shifted uncomfortably on his feet, seeing the redness flush over his cheeks from the heat. "I hate to break this to you Anne but he's always had his heart set on her. I just-... got there first."
My heart felt suffocated, hearing this again. But this was something I already knew. The moment she set foot inside the house in Feldcroft, I knew. She had every man I ever knew head turning for her. Her striking features, the way she carried herself, the power she had over any man would bring them to their knees within seconds. Something I always struggled with, having the confidence she had held me at a jealousy but regardless..... she saved my life. Saved Sebastian's. I couldn't hold an ill will against her anymore even if I wanted to. But now... she's marrying the man I've had my eyes on the moment him and Sebastian became friends.
