"Who does he think I am? His therapist?" Haley questioned as she turns off her phone and places it on the table, not wanting to see the screen anymore as she stabs her fork into her lunch.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Not even a hello?" I asked since she has been in the talking stage with a senior. They've never really spoken to each other but have been texting as she followed him on Snapchat. Apparently, there has been some tension between them.
While she's in tenth grade, he's in twelve like I am. From what I've been told, Haley and Justin, the guy she has been texting, have only ever looked at each other. They had these stares and she told me that whenever she holds eye contact, he looks away. At first, she didn't until I suggested she maintained her dominance and held on to the eye contact to tease him as it's a way of flirting. She tried it and has been doing it ever since.
Sometimes being a romance reader can have it's perks even though I've never had a boyfriend myself. But my book boyfriends and husbands make up for it.
However, once she found his snap and I encouraged her to follow him as there's nothing wrong with a girl making the first move, not to mention that many guys have been saying they would love it if women made the first move, so she followed him. He accepted and she sent the first snap which led to them texting. At first, it was great. She has shown me some of their snaps, told me what they talk about and so on.
At first, it was sweet until it started to look like it was a conversation between a therapist and their patient. I pointed that out because Justin doesn't put the effort to get to know her or even show any interest in doing so. He just complains to her and tells her all his problems as if she had the solution. And he talks way too much. Paragraphs. We didn't even know a man like that existed.
It wouldn't have been a problem if he also showed interest in her.
"It's been five months. Five!" Haley says as she shows me her hand dramatically. "He can't even be near me at school. Not even a hello."
"So you want to take my toxic advance?" I asked her as I have been given her some ideas that are a little toxic. The ones that would scream bad news are ones she's too afraid to try. I can't blame her, she's a sweet and nice person but she doesn't want to be in a relationship with a guy who can't as much give her a hello or even show interest in her in person.
You go to the same school. Walk past each other but can't even say hi to each other yet he can text her all day and night like nothing.
I found out that his friends know about the situation and are trying to get him to talk to her, but he made the choice of doing nothing. And so far, my idea of leaving him on read or respond days later is what she decided to do.
"Fuck him, man. Honestly. Fuck him." Haley complained while stabbing her pasta.
Haley Chanter is a sweet girl but her secret? She wants a sweet man in public but in private, she wants the most ruthless man there is. When I found out, I couldn't help but show her a few fanfics of her favourite celebrities that have exactly what she's looking for and more. She didn't ask me where I found it or how, just that she loves it after she read them.
"At least you get some action." I now complain as I eat my lunch which is a healthy Korean lunch that my brother made this morning.
"Action? You get action! Wasn't it last week that a guy asked for your number?" Haley ask me which made me roll my eyes.
"Yeah, after calling me baby girl and snapping his fingers for my attention." Even remembering what happened at work pisses me off. Some nerves that guy had. "My dad is even bothering about getting a boyfriend. He says I need to get out more despite having two kids that are a copy of him, me being one of two."
