Surprisingly, it didn't take long to find him. To be honest, I thought I would have needed to call him and ask him where he is so that we could talk. But instead, he was at the first place I searched.
Home.
The garage door is open and he has his hockey stick, puck and net with holes in which he was shooting at. The driveway had less snow than before which means Adonis must have done some shovelling. Now he's putting his frustration into this.
"For someone that's all about the attention, you sure like to isolate yourself." I point out.
Denny stops and looks back to see me walk towards him. For a second, he looked worried. He observes me, trying to read me to see how I'm feeling and once he saw that I'm okay, he goes back to hitting another puck which scores into the corner of the net.
But what I noticed is a bruised lip.
"What happened?" I run to him and grab him by his jacket. I pull him down to take a closer look at his face but he hits my hand away.
"I'm fine."
"You want to worry about me?" I question him. "Then you have to let me worry about you, dumbass."
Denny laughs. "Gods, you're annoying."
"I'm your sister. I'm not suppose to be a damn blessing, but an annoying, pain in the ass so," I grabbed his ear and pulled him to my level so I could check on him, "let me see how much I can make out of you since now the package is damaged."
"Damaged?" Denny questions with the tone that shows he's insulted.
"Despite being a pain, you have a pretty face. Do you have any idea how much I could make off you?" I inform him. He smiles. A real smile. "Seriously, who did this?" I let go of his ear and went on the hunt for some clean snow to put on his mouth.
"Eros."
"Eros? Why would--" Eros is never violent unless necessary. He would never do anything to hurt anyone. Yet, somehow Denny was on the receiving end. "You deserved it." I don't sugar code it.
"Yeah, I did. Chilly had to separate us." I could only imagine. "...I'm sorry."
I was taken off guard by his apology.
"I shouldn't have reacted that way. I made you feel suffocated and yelled... I know you're sensitive to that ever since..." He sighs. "I'm really sorry but I'm just scared for you, Cally."
"I know." I assure.
"No, you don't. You've never been in love before. Heck, I don't know if you even love the kid--"
"I do. I love James." I confirm because it's needed to be said.
"Why?" Denny place his hockey stick on the wall of the garage. "You're young. If you fall too early--"
"I'll get hurt?"
"Yes, Cally. You'll get hurt. Especially when you find out you're nothing, but a second choice. You should never be someone's second choice."
This reminds me of what Chilly told me about Denny's past. Who hurt him?
"Achilles told me I wasn't a second choice, but a second chance at--"
"Emma called him," Denny blurs out and just like that, I felt a crack in me.
"What?"
"You were getting yourself something from the table and James was next to me." Denny explains. "We were talking with a few others. He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, took it out. It was a call. He answered it and he said her name. At first, he sounded surprised but when the realization hit that Emma called him... he left the room to the backyard to talk to her."
