"Hey, Kiddo," Denny says as he knocks on my bedroom door and then walk in. He looks around for a second to find me on the ground with different colour of paint bottles around, tissues, different sizes of paintbrushes, a glass of water that's in a weird colour and a canvas that's in front of me.
I turn half my body to look at my door to see him. "You know it's past midnight, right?" Denny mentions with a chuckle.
"What?" I was watching Netflix while painting on full screen. I pause the show, move the mouse to see the time to notice it's 12:48AM. "Shit," I curse as I start to clean up, but my brother walks in my room and helps me clean my mess. I thank him and boss him around, telling him where they go and what to do in whispers as everyone must be asleep.
It took a good twenty minutes to clean everything up as we may have been just playing around. Once it was done, Denny sneaks back into my room as I move the unfinished paining on my desk as I barely use my desk. I then stretch my back to have my second brother move behind me, grab me and squeeze me tightly that I felt my bones on my back crack which felt euphoric.
"Oh, gods, I love you," I almost moan as Denny place me back on the ground. He chuckles and I watch him look over at the painting I'm making.
"Shit, you're getting better," Denny compliments as he looks at what I'm working on. It's an scenery, giving off winter vibes, but it's late in the evening. Dark sky with colours and stars. In the middle, there's an ice-rink which which was once water, but then hard ice due to the winter. In the middle, a hockey player. There's more that need to be painted but for now, that's all that can be seen.
"Is that suppose to be James?" Denny ask as he points at the hockey player with the sketch number 29 on the jersey.
"Yeah, his birthday is in two months," I remind him.
"My birthday is in two weeks," Denny reminds me jealously which made me giggle.
"I know," I nod as I move to my closet. I can sense him following my movement. I open my closet and take out a a box that's wrapped up in halloween wrapping and another that is bigger, and wrapped in the same wrapping as the box. "I was going to give this to you tomorrow morning before you left but now that you're here and you mentioned it," I say as I bring it to him.
"Two gifts?" he ask with a smile as he place the gift on my bed to look at me. I give a light nod which made him laugh. "I swear, your gifts were always the ones I looked forward to. I still have that keychain you gave me on my thirteen birthday." Denny said proudly. And I know he does as I've seen him take out his keys before and the weird drawing I made of us that dad made into a keychain is alway with him. I've never seen him without it.
"Anything of my favourite brother." My comment made my brother smile brightly.
"Come here, kiddo," Denny says as he pulls me into a hug and rubs the top of my head.
"Go away," I complain, trying to push him away, but he just chuckles. He lets go and I touch my glasses to make sure they're okay. And then I place my hand on my hair despite the fact that I'll be going back to bed soon.
But as I do so, I take a good look at my brother. Denny is wearing his glasses, he has an old shirt with the cartoon drawing of The Simpsons, and grey sweatpants. "Did you come here to tell me to go to bed like a good big brother or something?" I tease, walking to my bed and taking a seat.
Denny does the same, putting distance between him and my gifts that he'll open on Halloween day because he's the lucky dude that was born on Halloween day.
"I wanted to check up on you," Denny said softly which seems like a lie, but I don't say anything but hum in a way that tells him I don't believe him. "It's true," he laughs. My brother sighs and drops back on my bed. "You have three good looking older brothers and two identical annoying little brothers, life isn't easy," he mentions which confuses me.
