Eros took me home instead of Dad.
My brother just told me that Dad softly explained what happened to him after he explained to Mom what happened. Eros asked and Dad told him the short version. That's when he suggested on taking me home instead, suggesting that he'll talk to me.
Dad allowed it after some convincing in his part.
But the car ride was quiet. Even when he parked. Even when we walked to the door and unlocked it. Once it shut behind us, I took a step towards the stair to head to my bedroom but stopped and looked back at my brother who was taking off his shoes.
"Eros?"
"Hm?" he responded by taking of his jacket next and hanging it.
"You wrote a few romance novels yet you never once fell in love." I pointed out.
"Is there a question in there?" He asked which caused me to hesitate.
"What... I don't want to ask you what love is... But just... If a story is written..." I sigh as it's hard to explain. "Why are characters created to just get their heart broken?" I asked.
His eyes slightly widen. He's surprised by my question.
"Why add a third character, make them fall in love to just end up heart broken as that person goes to another one they realize that the other person was who they wanted the whole time?" I asked, desperately needing an answer.
Because I just don't understand why it's like this for me. Why am I the third person? I would have been fine as the background. Main character is good too, at least I know I'll have a good ending but this isn't one of those. I am stuck in a nightmare that I'm afraid to admit more than I should and in a hopeless love.
Eros doesn't answer, he just looks one way, thinking of an answer but one his eyes met mine, I knew he had one. "Because someone has to get hurt." His hands find themselves in his sweater. "There's falling in love with the idea of the person. There's falling in love with the person for how they once were and not realizing the change. There's the falling in love and being in love but understanding that no matter how much you give, it won't be received. Whether it's sad or not. Wether it part of a character's growth or not, each character has their role and lessons to learn along the way." He explained.
I don't really understand it. I've read so many novels. So many that I've seen various ways of falling in love and expressing it. I've read it and even foolishly dreamt it. It's stupid but a girl can only dream yet despite the dreams, I am stuck as character, as a person who everyone wishes the best for because they didn't get the ending that was deserved.
"As authors." Eros continued. "We write the characters and the plot. We create the story and bring it to life. We connect to them. We became them as we write. Hurting a character is hurting ourselves but necessary. It's growth. It's easy to write off things. It's easy to make them forget and live but what's not easy is writing things we don't know but connect to the character and write it from their perspective and how the meaning of the word love is. Maybe it's a second chance. Maybe it just wasn't meant despite it all. But someone needs to get hurt to learn whatever the lesson the author is trying to get the readers to understand."
Eros write so much. I've seem him write and write. I've seen him read for hours. I've seen him write so many genres for fun because he got bored of one. He's amazing and when I read his work, I've always connected to the characters because like he said, he connects to them and expresses what they would feel in those situations.
But is there really a need for someone to get hurt?
"It's like your trauma." He adds. "You say you're fine. You continue on with your life without much trouble. You don't look over shoulder but one reminder, even if its small, can bring you back to that nightmare. How you deal with it and what support you have around you can help you through something like that. That type of hurt can either break you or make you and you didn't let it break it, Cally. You didn't let you take you down because thank whatever God is up there, you're still here. Someone needs to get hurt whether it from a broken heart or trauma. It's the journey that matters."
