"Were you just never going to tell me that you and James are a thing?" Ryan asked me as soon as I took my seat next to him. He wasn't even looking at me but at the screen of his laptop, watching an anime. Only one of his earphone is on and his fingers are on the keys to give the illusion that he's working on something instead of watching a show.
"Were you never going to tell me that you and Nelly have been dating?" I fire back while looking at my screen, also pretending to be doing my work when I'm actually just scrolling and reading.
Ryan doesn't respond which lead me to smile victorious. But from the corner of my eyes, I can see him pause his anime, change the screen to the essay we're suppose to be working on and then close his laptop. He turns his body and chair to face me in a way that shows seriousness.
I took this as my cue do the same and then turn to face him as well. Ryan closes his eyes for a second to take a deep breath and very quietly yet calmly, he ask, "how long have you known?"
"So it is true," I smiled since I had my suspicion.
I can see the gears in his head changed. I knew he was debating with himself to whether expose himself or to deny.
"You fucking bitch." Ryan curses at me that brought a laughter out of me.
"It's your fault for making it obvious. You were doing things out of your usual whenever you're with her. It's weird seeing you be sweet and lovey-dovey," I teased. He never told me about his relationship and they never went public with it but then again, they never made a big scene the way James and I did.
"I am going to kill you." He promised, leaning closer to show his commitment in doing the offence.
"I have five brothers." I lean forward as well, playing this game with him. "One who knows how to take a life just as much as how to save one. The other who's getting his way into the NHL which means he has a team right behind him to follow him into battle. And the other who will make it all look like an accident or make sure you're never found." I remind him the perks of having brothers. "The youngest being more than happy to be their alibi. And now, a boyfriend who will jump across the room if I so much look in danger."
Ryan stares at me for a moment before turning his head to look at the other side of the classroom. I do the exact same thing to see James is indeed looking over at us. Well, mostly on Ryan. The way he was looking at my desk-mate was like a warning. I could almost laugh because once James looked back at me, he gives me a smile.
And then Tyler gets his attention and they're back into a discussion about who knows what.
"That was fucking creepy but also on point," Ryan admits. "But that doesn't change the fact you found out. Was I really that obvious?" Ryan asked.
"Honestly, yeah. To me at least." I admit. "I was questioning it at first, but didn't say anything because I didn't want to be a hypocrite since you and Nelly were friends at first."
"We're both hypocrites," Ryan sighs. He re-opens up his laptop and puts one of the earphone in his ear.
"That we are, my friend." I nod in agreement, also re-opening my laptop.
Ryan and I sit in the back corner of the classroom. The teacher barely checks on us as he believes we're doing our work since we have never been late on a homework, and always get good grades for them. Of course, we don't always do our work in class, just enough in case the teacher does decide to check up on us and ask to see our work. Its History class and the work is basically to write about two different primary and secondary sources.
I look away from my screen for a second, I don't know why but deep down I do.
I try not to but I couldn't help it. I looked over at where James is to see him smiling at something Tyler said. He leans back on his chair, stretching and out of nowhere, Tyler smack his stomach that caused James to lean forward and laugh. I watch my fake-boyfriend place his hand on his stomach and then push Tyler's shoulder.
