📚 Chapter 34 📚

"So you're not worried?" Hailey ask me on the phone while I scroll threw Pinterest on my laptop, looking at prom dresses. I'm sitting on my bed.

"I wouldn't say that." I comment, saving a navy blue dress. It has a leg split which I like and it's a square top, open back. It looks beautiful on the woman wearing it. I don't know if it will on me but it's worth a shot to try when the time comes to go out shopping for it.

"Are you even paying attention to me?" Hailey knows when I'm distracted. It says in my voice.

"Sorry, sorry. I'm just trying to find what I want when I go out prom dress shopping with my mom." I close my laptop, "But as you I was saying, I wouldn't be too worried. James made his feelings for me clear. I choose to trust him. If Emma tries something, I just have to put my faith that James would chose me over her. Relationships are built on trust. I need to trust him."

"Yeah, but this is Emma we're talking about. You know how she is." Hailey is getting angry on my behalf. I told her everything. I keep her updated on how the situation is going and what's new. What I am keeping from her is the things James and I have been doing when we're alone.

"Emma isn't bad. She's..." I don't know why I'm defending her. I don't know her that well nor do I know her well enough to give an honest opinion. I do think she's horrible for hurting James but her mistake is my achievement. I may even go as far and call it faith. "Emma is just really pretty. She's attractive and that's not her fault. She just has some really good genes."

"I know. I know but still. And what about Elio?" Hailey seems to be more curious about the situation with Elio than Emma. She's just annoyed with her.

"We haven't been interacting much since James and I started our relationship." I admit.

"It's weird, you know." Hailey sighs. I move my laptop to the side and lay down. "James is the type of guy that wouldn't keep his girlfriend hidden. A secret relationship? Not something he would do. And Emma doesn't have strict parents. There's no restrictions on her when it comes to dating. No one would have downgraded them for dating and even if someone did, James would protect her because it's what he would do."

"I know." I close my eye and take a deep breath. Nothing she's saying is false. It's all true and I hate to admit how much it bothers me to not know more about their relationship. I know so much about other because I'm attentive but with them, it's hard to say.

"So why a secret relationship? With you, James makes sure everyone knows you two are dating. He doesn't give two shits." Hailey points out. "Everyone at first suspected that you two would have been a thing but that soon just became something to bother you guys because everyone knew about James feelings for Emma. He never said it out loud but it was obvious. You two being a couple surprised everyone but at the same time, wasn't that much of a shocker. I just hate that I can't figure out what was between them or what Elio's role in their relationship other than the backstabber was. Just what was going on?"

"You guess is as good as mine."

Hailey and I end up chatting a bit more before saying goodbye and saying how we'll see each other at school if the classes aren't cancelled again due to snow. I left my room and head to the living room. The curtains are open to which I could see the snow. It hasn't been getting any easier. Snow keeps and keeps on coming. Just on cue even, the front door swings open. The twins and Eros stomp their shoe on the ground before stepping inside.

They take of their shoes, not boots because God forbid Canadians put on boots, and set it near the vent for the heat.

"Oh look." Aimilios says, taking off his tuque and throwing it at the bench. "The person who fights for equality but when it comes to shovelling the pathway, suddenly equality isn't a thing anymore." He complains.
