Jay POV

I text her to meet up with me at the cafeteria. After I grabbed my lunch I turned around to see her waiting for me at the exit.

I walked in her direction seeing her avoid eye contact with me. I open the door to allow her to exit first then follow her footsteps.

We didn't discuss where we were gonna go and talk so I just led the way.

We walked in silence to a secluded table with benches and decided to sit on the table. We were alone between old classrooms that were no longer occupied.

I knew she was too stubborn to speak first, so I broke the silence.

"There was something that I haven't mentioned to you that's been bothering me."

Her eyes looked off in the distance. I see her lick her lips then swipe her tongue across her teeth.

"I'm glad.." She added a small pause. "That it's finally gonna come out. I've been waiting for this."

She crossed her legs and gathered her hands on her knee. She is so sassy sometimes. It's nothing new, it just isn't the energy she shows on a regular basis. At least, not towards me.

"I know you think I been acting funny and distant but I was reacting to something I heard.. about you. I didn't wanna—."

She interrupts. "So we not happy cause you heard a rumor and didn't wanna talk to me, your girlfriend about what could easily be a lie. Do you not trust me?"

Well now that the question came from her lips I didn't feel as confident as I felt about her two weeks ago. Maybe Jay was right. I need to figure some things out.

"You can't even say yes? What are we even on right now? Is this Earth?" Her eyebrows wrinkle.

I guess that was a long time to think about that answer.

She opens her legs and puts her hand on her knees. She looks up at the sky. Her head almost did a 180 swivel.

As funny as that was to see, I couldn't react humorously when inside I just wanted clarity and I didn't want to lose sight of that.

"I do trust you. I want to trust you." I explain.

"Which one is it Jamie do you trust me or do you want to trust me?" She asks, returning back to her previous position.

"I do. There both the same th—."

"Okay Jamie. What was this rumor even about and who did it even come from?" She was getting fiesty but she changed her tone when I looked at her like she better remember who she's talking to.

"It was someone who, by the way, you didn't even know lives in my house and I drive him to school. I wasn't picking you up recently so you wouldn't have noticed the day it started. Last week, he told me that you gave him your number and you were flirting back with him. You tell me he's lying and I will get on my knees and apologize."

"Who said that?" Her body language shifted. She seems to be more tense.

I could see her visibly freeze up a bit. As if my words brought a certain memory and set her in a trance.

"Please tell me he wasn't talking about you. Tell me that there's another Mo on campus." I clasp my hands together as I plead.

"What's his name?" She asks.

Hold on. Do I have fool written on my forehead?

"Girl, you know his name. Stop playing with me." I know she think I'm not realizing what she's doing. Avoiding my questions with questions.
