Maverick

Around 2:30, I called Jayden, not getting a response until 3 when I heard my phone ring. "Jay?"

"Hey, Mav."

"Why did you leave?"

"I just... Never mind, I shouldn't."

"Jayden, tell me."

"It doesn't matter."

"Yes, it does."

Jayden sighed. "I'll come over."

"Now?"

"Yes. If that's okay."

"Of course it is, I'll see you soon."

As I waited for Jayden, I questioned what she had going on and as if on cue, I heard a knock on my door. "Door's open."

Jayden entered my house, an unreadable expression displayed on her face. "Jayden, talk to me. What the hell happened?"

She sighed and sat on my couch. "I'm sorry, I just..."

"You what?"

"I really shouldn't, Mav. We've had a strong friendship and I don't want to ever ruin that."

"What do you mean?"

"N-nothing, I should not have come here."

"Jay, please stay and talk to me."

"It's something that I've been thinking about for years but I know it could potentially ruin our friendship."

"Well, if you aren't ready to tell me, I'll be patient and wait until you tell me."

"Thanks, Mav."

"Of course."

After Jayden left, I went upstairs and got ready for bed. Whatever Jayden had on her mind, I wanted to find out, but the only solution was to just wait regardless of how long it takes her.

Jayden

"So, how did it go?"

"I didn't tell him."

Kayla sighed. "Girl, when are you going to tell him?"

"Eventually."

***Three months later: After spending time with Maverick everyday, I got to the point where I wanted to tell him how I really felt. "I think I'm ready."

Kayla smiled. "Really?"

"Yes."

"Are you nervous?"

"Very. I just feel like maybe it's too early."

"You never know, maybe he feels the same way."

"I hope so, but I'm just scared to tell him. What if he doesn't feel the same way? Our friendship could be ruined because of me."

"Jay, stop. You two have such a strong vibe, I am sure it won't be that bad. It's worth a shot. Besides... it seems like you can't stay away from each other, considering the fact that you guys hang out at least 5 out of 7 days every week."

"I suppose you're right."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "He's here. How do I look?"

Kayla smirked. "Hot as fuck. I am sure he will drool over this outfit."

"Thanks Kayla."

"Of course!"

After Maverick picked me up, I was so nervous. "Hi."

"Hey."

"How are you?"

"I'm good, how are you?"

"I'm pretty good. How was practice?"

"Pretty good, I couldn't wait to see you though."

"Same."

I could feel my heart beating out of my chest, the closer I got to the restaurant. Nervous was an understatement, but I knew that I had to get it done and over with before I could change my mind. I hated the thought of telling him how I really feel, because in the back of my mind, I feel like the feelings won't be mutual and I could ruin our friendship of 25 years, but I had to do it now before it's too late.
