Danny

"I'm missing her more and more every day."

Micah scowled. "How is that my problem?"

"Can you call her for me?"

"Why should I do that?"

"I need to talk to her."

Micah shook her head. "I refuse to allow her to even be around you, Danny. You don't deserve her. Besides... You have a wife and kid now, maybe you should focus on being a good husband and father since you failed the first time."

"He's my stepson, Micah."

"That's not my point. The point is, you surely failed in terms of being a good father and husband."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me, Danny. Crystal clear. Do you have any idea how bad you hurt her? She is still crushed from what you did to her. She can't get into any relationship because of you, and would you like to know why? Because she feels that any guy she runs into will be a carbon copy of you."

"That makes me feel horrible."

"As it should."

Ignoring Micah's request, I went back to my office and shut the door as I tried to contact Valentina several times but each call went straight to her voicemail. I needed to think of a plan B to see Valentina again: The only thing that I could think of would be trying to make things right with her.

Valentina

"Danny has been trying to contact you."

"I blocked his number so I didn't receive his calls or texts, Micah and I have no interest in speaking with that asshole. He seriously has the audacity to pretend that everything is okay now?"

"I honestly wish I could answer that. A man like him sadly never changes."

I heard a faint knock on my door and sighed. "Micah, I have to go. I'll call you later."

"Sounds good."

I hung up and put my phone on the kitchen counter before opening the front door. Danny stood in front of me with a bouquet of roses and had a small smile on his face. "Hi."

"What the hell are you doing here, Danny?"

"I probably am the last person you expected to see, right?"

"I really would prefer for you to not be here right now."

He smiled and handed me the roses. "These are for you."

"Thanks, I guess."

"May I come in?"

I scowled. "No."

"Val, please. I need to talk to you."

"You have five minutes."

I got a vase out of the cupboard and filled it with water and put the flowers in it although I knew that I would end up tossing them in the trash after he left. "The flowers are pretty, thanks."

"Just like you."

"What are you doing here?"

"I'm sorry I was an asshole."

"An asshole? That's putting it very nicely."

"How's your new job?"

"I quit."

"Why?"

"Some stuff went down with my boss. I had to report him."

"Oh, so you don't have a job?"

"No."

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay."

"Well, I came here to tell you something."

"What is it?"

Danny sighed. "I want to fix things."
