Valentina
I saw Danny sitting at a table and a small smile formed on his face the moment he saw me. "Hey."
"Hey."
"What did you want to talk about?"
"I just am afraid of getting you involved in my life again, Danny and I just... I don't know."
"So, what did you exactly want to talk about then? Because I literally cannot stop thinking about you and I fired Katy. So, I don't have to see her anymore."
"What?"
"Val, I want to try to work things out between us. I miss the kids."
"Juan and Micah are both pissed at me for feeling the same way."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"What about you and Tom? I heard you guys are engaged now."
"He's a great guy. But I still just... I hate to even say this or feel this way, but I have feelings for you."
"God, you have no idea how good it feels to hear you say that. Do you want to go to dinner with me tonight?"
"I would like that."
"Good."
After saying goodbye to Danny, I went back home preparing to face the heat. I knew Juan would be beyond pissed which is understandable, but I'm a grown woman. I can make my own decisions.
"Val, I really don't think that you're making the right decision. Besides... you said you didn't want him to see the kids."
"It's unfair to Mav and Callie. They need their dad, Juan."
"I suppose you're right. But I think you should take a step back and think about things. You know?"
"Yeah."
"You don't need to take my advice, but I would hate to see him hurt you again."
"I told him I would go to dinner with him, but I'll think about it."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
"Good."
"Can you watch the kids for me?"
"Of course."
"Thank you."
After I got changed, there was a knock on the door. "I have to see that bastard's face?"
"Please be nice."
Rolling his eyes, he opened the front door, and I could see the tension on Juan's face. "Nice to see you, man."
"Yeah, yeah. I'll see you later, Val."
Nodding, I grabbed my purse and got in Danny's car. "I'm glad you chose to do this, Val." He said, placing a hand on my knee.
"M-me too."
The car ride was quiet and awkward. I was hoping he would initiate some type of conversation, but he didn't. "We're here."
I followed him inside and we sat at a table in the back. "So, you fired Katy?"
"I told her that I wanted to try to focus on us and our kids."
"How did she respond?"
"She didn't originally take it well, but I guess she understood."
"Well, I have no reason to accept her offer, nor yours."
"I understand that, and I can't say sorry enough. I fucked up, Val and I hate myself for it."
I felt my phone vibrate and saw a message from Natalia.
You're at dinner with Danny?
"Umm excuse me for a moment."
Danny nodded and I went outside to call Natalia. "I'm sure you're angry too."
"I'm not angry, Val. I just don't want to see him hurt you again. You don't deserve to go through that."
"I don't know what to do, Natalia."
"I don't fully approve of you trying to mend your relationship with Danny, but I understand. So, let me know how dinner goes. Fred made us dinner and it's ready."
"Sounds good. Talk later, Natalia."
I went back inside and saw Danny with a frown on his face. "Danny? Is everything okay?"
"Don't worry about it."
I placed my hand on his and had him look at me. "Talk to me."
"I feel like such an asshole."
"Danny..."
"No." Danny slipped his hand away from mine. "I have to go."
"Danny, wait..."
Ignoring me, Danny stood up and left. After he pulled out of the parking lot, I sent Micah on my way out the door. Be there in a few, girl.
After Micah showed up, I got in her car and sighed. "You were right."
"Did he give a reason why he left?"
"No."
Micah shrugged. "A man like that never changes, Val."
