Maverick

"I want a fresh start, Mav."

I looked at her not knowing what to do or believe. "I really don't think that is something that I want, Mya. You fucked up, not me."

"I know, but we can't take that back."

I grabbed my phone and looked at her before exiting her bedroom. "Goodnight, Mya."

After I got home, I received a phone call from Jayden. "Hello?"

"Hey, Mav."

"What's up?"

"I haven't spoken to you at all within the last two weeks!"

"I've been busy, Jay."

"Yeah, I'm sure you have."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I'm sure you've been doing more than just going to practice."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"You know what? Forget it. I'll just forget this conversation ever happened."

"We're just friends, remember?"

"I don't want to be just friends with you, Maverick. I want more than that."

"I can't, Jayden. I am sorry. I have a lot going on."

"Whatever, Maverick."

She hung up and I put my phone on the nightstand, knowing that I had both Mya and Jayden pissed at me, but I had to focus on my career and my son that will be here in a few months. I knew that being around Lexie was not a good idea, but I knew that I had to man up and be there for her when she needed me.

*** I woke up the next morning and once I arrived at practice, I was beyond shocked to see Lexie sitting next to Selena behind the team bench.

"What is she doing here?"

"I have no clue."

Tyler scowled. "I didn't know you two were a thing."

"We aren't."

"Really..."

"We need to be a part of each other's lives now. Considering our situation."

"I wouldn't want her in my life. Not at all. She is beyond toxic and you're only going to get hurt."

"We aren't dating, man. She's having my kid and I need to still be in her life."

"At least she's hot."

Tyler nudged Dale's shoulder. "Dude, you aren't helping."

"Mav's right, he would look like a total prick if he walked out on Lexie."

After practice ended, I met Lexie and Selena near the locker room. "Hey guys."

"Hey, Mav."

"How are you feeling?"

"Besides hot flashes and the usual pregnancy symptoms, I'm doing pretty well."

"That's good."

"Selena and I were thinking about going to dinner later, would you guys want to come with us?"

I looked at Tyler and Dale and they nodded. "Sure, we won't turn a meal down."

Lexie laughed. "Great, see you at T.G.I.Fridays."

"Sounds good, Lexie. Thanks."

After I took a shower and got changed, I met Tyler and Dale outside before leaving to go to T.G.I.Fridays, wondering what Lexie would have to say to me. I knew how things had gone down with us but at the end of the day, I still had to have her in my life considering she's the mother of my child.
