Lexie

*** Three weeks later: "So, I found some news out today."

"What?"

I handed Selena the pregnancy test and she scowled. "I thought you were on the pill."

"I was. Up until 4 weeks ago."

"Oh my god, Lexie! Did you tell Maverick that you are not taking it anymore?"

"Maverick's my boyfriend and I wanted to have a kid with him."

"So, that's a no."

"Correct."

"You can't just trap him like that!"

"Too late."

"Did he even say anything about wanting kids?"

"We haven't really talked about it, but I wanted one with him."

"Lex, your dad will be so pissed!"

"I love Maverick, it will be so worth it."

"When are you going to tell him?"

"Tonight. It is our anniversary after all."

"Don't be surprised if he breaks up with you."

"Excuse me?"

"If he doesn't want kids right now, this could really push him away."

"He wouldn't leave me."

"Lexie, you're 20 years old."

"And? He's 27. That is a perfect age to become a father."

"Good luck with that, Lexie."

"It will be fine! I am sure he'll be happy."

"We'll see about that."

Maverick

I knew that it was wrong to break up with Lexie, especially today but it seems like each day has gotten worse from her extreme mood swings and bossiness.

After the game, I drove home, wondering what kind of mood she would be in tonight.

"Hi, babe!"

"Hey."

"How was the game?"

"We won."

"Good!"

"Is everything okay?"

"Yes! I am more than okay!"

"Why's that?"

"Well, I know it's our anniversary and I kind of figured that maybe this would be a perfect surprise."

"What are you talking about?"

She smiled and handed me a wrapped box. "Open it."

"Lexie, I really need to talk to you about..."

"Open it!"

I opened the box, completely confused. "Is this a pregnancy test?"

"You're going to be a dad, babe!"

"Are you kidding me?"

"Not at all! I figured that you'd be excited."

"I came home to end things."

"What?"

"My friends were right. You're a nice person and all, but I can't handle how you treat me anymore, Lexie. When things don't go your way, you become moody, self-centered, rude towards me and I just can't handle it any longer."

"But what about our baby?"

"We will figure that out when the time comes."

"But I thought you wanted kids."

"I do, but not right now. Being on the road constantly would make things hard and I just really am not mentally prepared."

"Maverick, please don't do this to me."

"I am sorry, Lex. I didn't think I would get to this point, but I just can't do this."

She scowled and grabbed a bag. "This is your loss, Maverick. I am packing my things and leaving."

"We'll figure things out in terms of the kid, but it is for the best."

"God, you are such a prick!"

"I thought you were on the pill."

"I wanted a baby with you."

"I am nowhere near being ready for that. If you would have been patient, maybe I would want to have one eventually but I have my career to focus on."

"Whatever. Your loss."

Lexie packed some of her things and left, clearly pissed off. I hated hurting peoples' feelings, but I was in no state to have a kid at the moment.

As I sat on the couch, my phone rang. "Hello?"

"Hey, Maverick."

"Hey, Mya."

"I figured I could call to ask if you would like to go to dinner with me tomorrow night."

"Sure."

"Great!"
