Danny

By the time Valentina woke up, I had already fed the kids. As I tried to kiss her, she shook her head. "It's too early."

"It's almost 11."

"I'm pretty hungover."

"Are you sure that's it?"

"I'm fine."

"Valentina, tell me what's going on."

Ignoring me, she opened the fridge and grabbed a can of Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Just as she opened it, I grabbed it out of her hand. "Hey! I was going to drink that."

"You had plenty last night, Val. You shouldn't be drinking more."

Scowling, she went back upstairs and slammed the bedroom door shut. "Is mommy okay?"

I looked at Callie and sat on the floor next to her. "She's tired."

"Did she drink too much?"

"How would you know that?"

"She did it a couple weeks ago." Maverick said with a scowl on his face.

"Around you guys?"

Maverick nodded.

I couldn't believe it. Valentina barely drank, especially getting drunk in front of the kids. "I'll be right back."

I went upstairs and just as I opened the door, I heard her crying. "I love him, but I shouldn't trust him."

The moment I opened the door, she hung up and put her phone on the nightstand. "What's wrong?"

Shaking her head, she put her face in her hands and turned away from me. "Leave me alone."

"Not until you tell me what's wrong."

"I have no reason to trust you. How do I know that you aren't cheating on me?"

"Babe, I promised you that I would do anything for you."

She looked at me and tears slid down her cheeks. "Why should I believe that? Look at what you did to me in the past, Danny."

"I've been going to therapy for months. I've allowed you to go through my phone, have you seen anything? No."

"N-no, but still..."

"Can you just trust me for once?"

"I did. Several times, but you fucked it up."

"Val, I want you to know something, okay?"

"What?"

"I love you so much that it hurts."

"You cheated on me with my best friend and completely left us to live your own luxurious life."

"I messed up badly. If I could take it back, I would."

As she grabbed the beer bottle, I took it away from her and gathered the other bottles. "Lay down and I'll get some Tylenol for you."

Once I got her to lay in bed, I went downstairs and put the bottles in the recycling bin. "Is mommy okay?"

"She doesn't feel good is all."

"I want to see uncle Juan."

I looked at Callie and nodded. "I'll give him a call."

Juan answered on the second ring. "Yes?"

"The kids want to see you."

"Where's Val?"

"Upstairs, feeling extremely hungover."

"She drank last night?"

"A lot."

"I'll be there in a couple of minutes."

"Is he coming?"

"Yes, he's on the way."

After Juan picked the kids up, I went upstairs with a bottle of water and Tylenol. "I hope this will help."

She grabbed the bottle and pills. "Thanks."

Sighing, I sat in bed and grabbed her hand. "I'm sorry."

"I know."

"Do you?"

She shrugged. "I don't know."

Smiling, I kissed her forehead. "I do. Rest up, babe."

Nodding, she slowly drifted off to sleep and I got in bed with her. "Everything will work out." I whispered in her ear.
