Danny

After Valentina called me, I left work early to meet her at her house. When I got there, she was in the kitchen making lunch for the kids. "Daddy!"

"Danny, is that you?"

"Yeah, I'm here."

"Are you staying here now, daddy?"

"I'll have to see what your mom says. I sure hope so."

"Sorry I didn't call this morning."

"All good."

Callie looked up at me and smiled. "I missed you."

"I missed you guys too."

"Lunch is ready." Just as Valentina went to grab plates, I stopped her. "I got it. Take a seat."

"No, it's okay."

"Val... Sit down."

She looked at me and nodded. "Is daddy staying now?"

Valentina looked at Callie and sighed. "It's complicated right now, sweetie."

"Complicated?"

I looked at Valentina and shrugged. All I could do was hope and pray that she would allow me to be back in my kids' lives again.

The look on her face was unreadable, as if she didn't know how to respond to Callie but I had to find a way to convince her to say yes.

Valentina

After lunch, I had the kids take a nap to speak to Danny privately. It was something I dreaded, but I needed to get it done. "Did you make your decision?"

"First off... When I thought things were going well, you cheated on me and I had found out about your secret relationship with Katy for two years behind my back and although we mended things, it doesn't leave out the fact that you left us without any explanation and go ahead to get married to another woman on top of having another child."

"Hunter is her son from a previous marriage."

"It doesn't matter, Danny. It doesn't change the fact of what you've done to me."

"Val, I have hurt you and I hate myself for it every day."

"You said the same thing after we worked things out the last time. You promised that you would change, but you didn't and leaving your son and Callie was heartbreaking. Our son never even got to spend any time with his father, nor did Callie."

"I'm divorcing Tina. It's over with her completely."

"You really think it's that easy, don't you?"

"I mean, why wouldn't it be?"

"It can be a long process. Besides, I never said that I would give you another chance. You crushed me and I have not been able to trust any man because of you, despite the trauma at work, but..."

"What trauma?"

"Nothing. It doesn't matter."

"It does to me, Val."

"Yeah, well... you hurt me and honestly, I don't know if I could ever forgive you for..." Without saying a word, Danny stood up from the couch and grabbed my face, kissing me.
